Goblinz Publishing, known for As Far As The Eye, Knightica, and more, has launched its new dark fantasy strategic roguelike title, Runeborn, now available on Android. Developed by iDream Interactive, the indie game brings its beloved blend of deckbuilding mechanics with slot-inspired combat to mobile. There is currently no information regarding the iOS release.
Build powerful rune combinations and overcome Malakar’s forces
If you enjoy roguelites with strategic deckbuilding, Runeborn offers an interesting twist by combining it with slot-style mechanics like Clovepit. Instead of simply drawing cards, you’ll spin Rune Columns to cast spells, line up matching runes across Spell Lines to damage enemies, and even lock selected runes in place to create more reliable combos during battle.
As you progress, you’ll continuously shape your Runebook by adding, removing, and upgrading runes to match your preferred playstyle. Here, runes can also be enhanced with powerful amulets and auras, while a huge collection of Trinklets unlocks all kinds of synergies for you, from boosting damage and triggering runes multiple times to changing elemental interactions.
Honestly, I like the freedom to choose which enemies to fight first, with the game letting you weigh the risks against the rewards. Tougher enemies provide more coins to spend across specialized shops, while elite encounters and bosses offer even greater rewards. Overall, the game looks very fun with its dark fantasy setting, randomized runs, countless build possibilities, and more.
