After reviving from cancellation, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is now available (for most players), and it seems the developers were preparing a little surprise for today’s launch.
Paramount Games and Gameplay Group International just announced they’re adding a free DLC character to the game while also sharing a development newsletter to address some of the missing features and concerns.
Said new fighter is Tagah.
If his name doesn’t sound familiar, that’s probably because he’s a new character featured in the Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender film that’s about to release.
Tagah is an ancient airbender sealed away for 5,000 years before he is awoken and joins Aang’s gang in a search for Avatar Sonam’s staff, whom he trained under in the distant past.
So they’ll be adding another primary airbender to join Aang and Zaheer on the roster though we don’t yet know what is going to make him stand out from them just yet.
Avatar Legends already had five DLC characters confirmed with four being Iroh, Ty Lee, Lin Beifong and Bolin plus the fifth determined by a fan vote between Amon, Kuvira, King Bumi, Tenzin and Asami Sato.
That means players will receive an extra fighter outside of the Season 1 Pass.
Our 12 character roster has expanded as a mysterious fighter awaits. Tagah from Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender will be joining the roster for FREE later this year! More details to come and thank you to all our fans! pic.twitter.com/xcWp3SoPXl

They didn’t provide a release date for Tagah, but he’ll apparently be arriving later this year in the Fall.
Our in-depth review for Avatar Legends rated the fighting game with extremely high marks for its deep and thoughtful gameplay, but the title hasn’t faced the smoothest of launches.
Just hours before the game was supposed to release, the Avatar Legends team announced they had to delay the Xbox version until September while also revealing limitations for the Nintendo Switch version.
Players also discovered some notable features and modes were missing from Avatar’s full release including Ranked online, Spectator Mode and expanded lobbies that go beyond only two players, which raised concerns.
The developers have released a launch newsletter going over what’s going to be added to Avatar Legends in upcoming updates.
That includes the addition of Ranked Mode, Lobbies, Spectator Mode, a Beginner’s Zone, Casual Modes, new Tutorials and more combo Trials.

Avatar’s promised Premium Edition and pre-order content is also on the way though it’s kinda weird that they’d launch without them.
On top of that, the team states new sprites and animation details are being worked on too for Ozai, Avatar Aang and Nightmare Korra.
They didn’t provide an exact time as to when players should expect these updates besides saying it’s coming soon.
Avatar was already delayed once from the start of this month, but it seems the game needed some extra time in the oven after all, which is unfortunate though also raises the question as to why it wasn’t delayed again — especially with the Xbox issues forcing it to be pushed back there anyway.
At least the game has a dedicated development team continuing to work on it and add everything the fighting game needs, so hopefully they figure it all out quickly.
The team states they’ll share another newsletter soon to go into more detail on the update and provide patch notes.
Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender is scheduled to release for Paramount+ on July 25, so we are a bit curious if the fighting game had to come out in time to coincide with the movie.
Huge thanks to everyone that started mastering the elements today!
We hear your feedback loud and clear and are working to prioritize top requested features for upcoming patches:
