Owlcat’s grimdark cRPG takes a closer look at one of the Inquisition’s most dangerous weapons.
Owlcat Games has shared a new lore update for Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, this time focused on Daemonhosts, one of the most forbidden tools ever used by radical Inquisitors.
The update, titled Chaos Shackled: Daemonhosts Unveiled, digs into the ugly logic behind these living prisons, where a daemon is bound inside a human host and forced into service against the enemies of the Imperium.
Their creation is described as an act of heresy, built around secret rituals, binding chains, prayers, and a host whose body and soul are reshaped into a cage for Warp-born hatred. Even when the ritual works, the result is never a loyal servant. It is a weapon that wants to escape, kill, and turn on its master the moment control slips.
The update frames Daemonhosts as both tactical assets and spiritual poison. Their bindings can be loosened in battle to release destructive Warp energy, but every use weakens the wards holding them in place.

The Inquisition itself remains divided. Puritan factions see Daemonhosts as abominations that must be destroyed. More radical Inquisitors view them as tools too powerful to ignore. Here you can learn more about it.
Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy is a party-based cRPG from Owlcat Games set in the Calixis Sector, where players serve the Inquisition and investigate threats against the Imperium.
The game blends narrative choices, companion-driven role-playing, and turn-based tactical combat, with players leading a retinue of Acolytes through conspiracies, heresy, and the kind of moral compromises that define the grimdark universe.
