Here are all the latest playable releases from the past few days across turn-based RPGs, strategy games, and roguelites. August continues to be absolutely scorching, not just weather-wise- since where I’m writing from in Italy, the heat is brutal, but also when it comes to new releases.
Personally, I’ve got my eye on the remake of a true strategy classic, which I’m hoping to dive into this weekend if I can carve out an hour for myself. But I’ve also come across several promising demos for dungeon-crawling RPGs, as well as the debut of a very intriguing SRPG that, after a short delay, finally launched this week and has been earning excellent reviews so far, plus plenty more.
All that’s left to do is get comfortable and scroll down to discover all of this week’s new releases.
Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns
- Developer: Black Tower Basement
- Release Date: August 13, 2026
- Platforms: PC
- Steam Page: Available on Steam
Here’s the title that caught my attention, and I’m saying that as someone who never played the original.
One of the early examples of cinematic strategy gaming returns in a substantially updated package. Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns once again asks players to conquer provinces, raise armies, manage their resources, and participate in castle assaults while competing for control of medieval England.
Three modes are included: Retro Mode preserves the original Amiga experience with quality-of-life improvements, Classic Mode updates its visuals and systems, and Kingdom Mode introduces procedurally generated maps, dice mechanics, unlockable abilities, and multiple difficulty settings.
The result is both a preservation project and an expanded version intended to offer additional replayability.
Ledgerbound
- Developer: OmniMegaSuperCorp
- Release Date: August 13, 2026
- Platforms: PC and macOS
- Available on Steam

So far, the reviews for this distinctive SRPG have been excellent, and I couldn’t be happier about it. Ledgerbound combines a fantasy tactical RPG with corporate satire, relationship management, and an unusually large amount of administrative paperwork.
Players take the role of an insurance adjuster whose employer faces financial ruin after several celebrated heroes are killed by an ancient enemy. Rather than approving their claims, the protagonist heads into battle to prove that the heroes were simply underprepared.
Combat takes place on grid-based battlefields, with party customization supported by abilities, equipment, and character promotion paths. Outside combat, limited free time must be divided between personal development and building relationships with other party members.
A Knight’s Fury – The Vaults of Venom – Demo
- Developer: PulpyGamesStudio
- Release Date: August 7, 2026
- Platforms: PC
- Free demo available on Steam

One of my favorite genres keeps delivering hidden gems thanks to the work of so many indie developers. Earlier this week I already covered another first-person RPG, which you’ll also find further down, but A Knight’s Fury was completely new to me, and as I’m writing this article, I’ve already started downloading the demo.
The Vaults of Venom introduces a single-character dungeon crawler inspired by first-person RPGs from the 1980s and 1990s.
Rather than managing an entire party, players enter the dungeon as a lone adventurer, exploring dangerous passages, confronting monsters directly, and collecting equipment needed to survive the journey.
Combat emphasizes timing, positioning, and learning enemy behavior, while replayable runs offer additional opportunities to discover loot, traps, secrets, and character upgrades. The complete game is currently scheduled to arrive during the fourth quarter of 2026.
Ricochet Abyss – Early Access
- Developer: DreamForge
- Release Date: August 14, 2026
- Platforms: PC
- Available on Steam

Entering Early Access this week, Ricochet Abyss mixes RPG progression and backpack management with physics-based combat inspired by pinball.
Heroes are launched across dungeon arenas, damaging enemies and interacting with objects as they bounce around the environment. Preparation is therefore just as important as aiming: players must arrange equipment inside a limited inventory, combine items and relics, and assemble builds capable of surviving increasingly dangerous encounters.
The current version includes more than 150 items, a longer progression path, and an Endless Mode for testing different combinations after the main content has been completed. The developer currently expects Early Access to last approximately one year.
Warhounds
- Developer: Everplay DMCC
- Release Date: August 11, 2026
- Platforms: PC
- Available on Steam

Another brand-new title that seems to be doing extremely well in terms of reviews is Warhounds. Taking inspiration from games such as XCOM and Jagged Alliance, Warhounds places players in command of an elite mercenary unit operating in an alternate-future version of Africa.
Missions emphasize positioning, lines of fire, flanking, destructible cover, and elevation, with ballistic calculations taking the place of traditional percentage-based hit rolls. The available operatives cover roles such as Assault, Sniper, Grenadier, Specialist, and Machine Gunner, while drones, scanners, smoke, and optical camouflage provide additional tactical options.
Between deployments, players recruit soldiers, purchase equipment, treat injuries, upgrade their base, manage finances, and decide which factions and operations to support.
Crypts Of Carith – Chapel Cellar Demo
- Developer: EverMoore Studios
- Release Date: August 10, 2026
- Platforms: PC
- Free demo available on Steam

And here’s the other first-person dungeon crawler that I can’t help but recommend keeping an eye on and, of course, checking out the demo, which offers an early look at a first-person, grid-based dungeon crawler inspired by classic computer RPGs and tabletop D20 systems.
Players control a premade group of six adventurers, including a fighter, barbarian, thief, cleric, mage, and illusionist, as they explore a self-contained dungeon level filled with enemies, traps, puzzles, and interactive objects.
Battles are turn-based and require players to manage positioning, spell resources, status effects, ranged attacks, and support abilities. The complete game will expand party creation with customizable characters, classes, species, skills, equipment, and persistent heroes that can eventually be carried into future adventures within the EverMoore Chronicles.
Lootbound
- Developer: ArtDock
- Release Date: August 14, 2026
- Platforms: PC, macOS, and Linux
- Available on Steam

Another title I’d been looking forward to for a while, and one we also reviewed, is Lootbound. A turn-based roguelite RPG built around party recruitment, route selection, and inventory organization.
Every run begins with a lone hero, but additional companions can be recruited while traveling through the game’s branching map. Equipment does not use fixed slots and can instead be rotated and positioned inside each character’s inventory, with adjacency auras allowing nearby items to strengthen one another.
Players directly control the main hero during combat, while companions perform their actions independently according to their abilities and equipment. Choices made at the end of each biome also determine the body parts and powers of the Guardian waiting at the conclusion of the run.
Endless Tactics: Trial Run
- Developer: Dead Battery Games
- Release Date: August 13, 2026
- Platforms: PC, macOS, and Linux
- Free to play on Steam

Serving as a free prologue to Endless Tactics, Trial Run introduces players to a turn-based roguelite about managing a dangerous planetary mining expedition. Each operation involves extracting valuable resources while defending the mining site from waves of alien creatures using military vehicles, defensive units, and large mechs.
Environmental events, including earthquakes, meteor showers, and sandstorms, can alter the conditions of a mission, forcing players to decide whether to evacuate or remain on the surface for greater rewards.
Resources can then be invested in upgrades for the orbiting ship, while collectible artifacts modify the rules and allow unusual combinations to emerge between runs.
The Severed Gods – Early Access
- Developer: Topebox
- Release Date: August 10, 2026
- Platforms: PC
- Available on Steam Early Access

The Severed Gods enters Early Access with a combination of JRPG combat and roguelite progression. Its battles are built around enemies with separate low, middle, and high body sections, each protected by its own defenses and weaknesses.
Breaking a section can knock an opponent down, while severing limbs permanently removes attacks or abilities associated with that body part, a system that becomes especially important when facing the game’s colossal Titans.
Defeat begins a new cycle rather than ending the campaign, allowing players to unlock heroes, improve skills, preserve relics, and gradually expand their options. Topebox expects the Early Access period to last approximately one to two years.
Breadventure – Demo
- Developer: Feckless
- Release Date: August 11, 2026
- Platforms: PC and Linux
- Free demo available on Steam

Breadventure takes a considerably lighter approach, presenting a party-based RPG about a newly baked hero attempting to challenge the powerful Hester corporation.
The game combines turn-based combat with cooking, exploration, puzzles, social interactions, and decisions capable of changing relationships and the direction of the story. Players will eventually be able to choose among Brawler, Thief, Chef, and Saint classes, recruit a party of food-themed companions, and combine their abilities during battle.
Ingredients can also be transformed into magical meals, while reputation systems and romance options provide additional ways to shape the adventure. The full version does not yet have a confirmed release date.
Tileweaver
- Developer: Mattalarc & Wolter
- Release Date: August 12, 2026
- Platforms: PC
- Available on Steam

Rather than moving a character directly across a conventional battlefield, Tileweaver asks players to construct routes using differently shaped Tilestone cards.
Creating a complete path between the player and an enemy enables an attack, while traps, obstacles, status effects, and enemy actions continually interfere with the layout of the board. Sigils generate a resource called Flux, which powers skills capable of damaging opponents or manipulating tiles.
Runs take place across three areas and can be attempted with five characters offering different playstyles. More than 70 artifacts and 60 skills provide additional ways to specialize a build or change how the board is controlled.
Sin or Suffer – Demo
- Developer: Gritty Piggy
- Release Date: August 10, 2026
- Platforms: PC
- Free demo available on Steam

Combining survival horror with the structure of a dark JRPG, Sin or Suffer follows a prisoner attempting to escape a medieval complex that has fallen under the control of violent inmates and a reality-altering force known as Sin.
The approximately one-hour demo introduces exploration, consequential choices, companion selection, and demanding turn-based battles in which individual enemy body parts can be mutilated to remove or weaken their abilities.
Encounters are not random, resources are deliberately limited, and personality traits can influence dialogue options, acquired items, and statistical bonuses. The complete game is planned for release in 2027.
The Dungeon Of Horror
- Developer: KiberKreker
- Release Date: August 9, 2026
- Platforms: PC
- Available on Steam

Playable alone or through online and LAN co-op, The Dungeon Of Horror is a dark fantasy dungeon crawler in which players construct the route they are attempting to escape.
Corridors, intersections, and rooms must be placed to open new paths, but different combinations can also produce unexpected situations and encounters. Combat is turn-based and largely deterministic, encouraging players to study enemy behavior rather than rely on favorable random rolls.
The objective is to search the shifting dungeon for equipment and artifacts, survive its creatures, and eventually reach the pagan shaman Meir before his ritual can be completed.
That’s everything I had to highlight for you this week. Did I miss anything? Let me know by reaching out on my social channels, the Discord server, or the Reddit community. Wish you the best. Ciao
