Rep. Lori Trahan, D-Mass., wants to overhaul the federal government’s half-century-old privacy law as concerns about the Department of Government Efficiency’s use of data linger. On Tuesday, Trahan released a 68-page staff report on the Privacy Act of 1974 that she said could serve as a blueprint for bipartisan, bicameral reform. This push comes as many lawsuits continue to work their way through the courts alleging that DOGE broke the government’s main privacy law when it accessed data at the Treasury Department, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Office of Personnel Management and elsewhere.Whistleblowers have raised alarms about DOGE exfiltrating sensitive data from the…
Ukrainian defense tech companies received the country’s first export permits in early February as Ukraine looks to capitalize on the dramatic recent expansion of the defense sector and boost the wartime economy. The news came days after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the decision to allow international weapons sales and unveiled plans to establish ten export centers across Europe in 2026. The move to permit Ukrainian arms exports has been a long time coming, with defense tech companies arguing that they have spare production capacity due to the Ukrainian state’s limited purchasing power. With foreign sales now on the agenda,…

The most consequential infrastructure decisions in Panama today are often not made at the locks of the canal, but in conference rooms where aviation security software, cargo-routing platforms, and port-scheduling systems converge. Sustained observation of Panama’s logistics and regulatory environment — reinforced by long-standing professional relationships within its institutions — points to a shift in how influence is accumulating.Panama’s strategic relevance is no longer confined to maritime geography. It is increasingly rooted in the integration of air, sea, and data systems, with Tocumen International Airport emerging as the keystone of that convergence — a shift unfolding neither overnight nor generationally, but across…
The troubled Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile program will hit a key milestone by year’s end, with hopes to deliver the initial ICBM by the early 2030s, Pentagon and Air Force officials announced Tuesday. In 2024, the Northrop Grumman program to modernize the land-based arm of the nuclear triad went so far over budget that the Pentagon rescinded a 2020 decision to move the program into its engineering and manufacturing development phase. Program officials said in September 2025 that they hoped to re-enter that phase by mid-2027, but now say they plan to hit that milestone this year. “Leveraging considerable progress over the…

President Donald Trump’s renewed bid to acquire Kalaallit Nunaat, also known as Greenland, is not adequately explained by the immediate benefits that possession of this country would give to the United States. Instead, this crisis is better explained in terms of the Trump administration’s political project, which seeks to reinvent the United States’ identity as a great power in an emerging post-rules-based international order. During his Davos speech, US President Donald Trump reaffirmed his desire to acquire Kalaallit Nunaat, citing that the US is a “great power, much greater than people even understand”. Trump also underscored that the US needed…
