Alex Pereira is not happy with the UFC brass and former double champion Daniel Cormier.
Pereira wanted a rematch with current heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane. The Brazilian believes Gane landed illegal blows to the back of his head during their UFC Freedom 250 bout, due to which he suffered a second-round TKO loss and his hopes of becoming the first 3-division champion were dashed.
Pereira wanted a rematch with “Bon Gamin.” But the matchmakers had other plans.
Gane will now defend his title for the first time against undefeated contender Josh Hokit at UFC 334. Pereira, meanwhile, will take on Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 335.
Alex Pereira Takes Aim at Daniel Cormier & UFC Brass
During a recent interview with Laerte Viana, “Poatan” alleged that Daniel Cormier and the UFC together forced people to believe Gane vs. Hokit would be a good fight and “should be the fight.” Thus, fans were compelled and are now interested in the matchup. He said:
“At first, the UFC said they did a poll, and that this will be the fight. I said, OK… It’s all kind of manipulated. I saw before the announcement that Cormier and other guys saying that it will be a good fight. Hey go ahead, say that this fight is good so that when we drop it, the public will be OK with it and agree with you.’ – I think they did everything there to make people believe that this should be the fight.”
Alex Pereira vacated his 205-pound strap earlier this year in pursuit of becoming the first in the company to attain three-division glory. He made his heavyweight debut on June 14 at the White House against Ciryl Gane for the interim 265-pound strap and was knocked out in Round 2.
Pereira revealed in the same interview that he asked Daniel Cormier whether beating Ciryl Gane would make him the champion, and “DC” quipped: “I don’t think so.” After hearing the Louisiana native’s response, Pereira belives Cormier makes no sense. He added:
“I [asked Cormier] if I defeat Ciryl Gane, am I the champion? He said I don’t think so. So the guy has opinions that don’t make sense.”
