COSTA MESA, California. The U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) verified Anduril Industries’ Barracuda-M cruise-missile family as compliant with the Air Force’s Weapon Open Systems Architecture (WOSA) standard following testing by the Munition Open Architecture Test and Evaluation Laboratory (MOATEL), Anduril announced in a statement.
The four-day assessment examined 14 WOSA domains, including mission autonomy, seeker, inertial measurement unit (IMU), GPS, propulsion, guidance, navigation, autopilot, and the Munitions Data Bus. Testing also evaluated modularity between Anduril’s internal and external data-bus implementations, with the company stating that the assessment verified its software architecture against WOSA requirements for the domains tested.
WOSA uses defined interfaces intended to allow weapon subsystems such as seekers, navigation modules, software, and payloads to be developed or upgraded without redesigning the complete weapon. Anduril says Barracuda is the first weapon in large-scale production to complete MOATEL’s independent WOSA verification process. Barracuda production is underway, with first customer deliveries planned for early 2027, according to the statement.
