Webzen has announced its new strategy RPG PROJECT D1, and unveiled the first details and in-game visuals for the title. Currently being developed by its subsidiary Webzen Crevix, the game is based on the popular 2022 Naver Webtoon series, Tyrant of the Defense Game, with Webzen revealing its partnership with Naver Webtoon last December.
PROJECT D1 brings the Webtoon’s world to life
So, PROJECT D1 follows the story of a protagonist who manages to clear an impossible game, only to find themselves trapped within its world. Now, to capture the distinctive dot-graphic look of this setting, the dev team is using a diorama pixel art approach that blends 2D pixel art with 3D environments rendered using Unreal Engine 5.
I like that the game’s trying to faithfully translate the original story’s main elements of exploration, defense battles, and territory management into its gameplay. And these ideas will come together through party composition, command-based combat, and strategic character growth, giving you multiple room to plan your approach.
Honestly, the newly revealed background artwork and in-game graphics already look promising, showcasing everything from the main characters gathering together to intense combat encounters. Plus, the concept art for Crossroad, the fortress city that serves as the game’s main setting, is particularly interesting and gives us a better idea of what to expect from its world.
Overall, PROJECT D1 is shaping up nicely, especially if you’re already a fan of Tyrant of the Defense Game or want to discover the story through a game. The good news is Webzen is set to begin full-scale service preparations, with more detailed information expected to arrive in the second half of 2026.
