GOLETA, California. Teledyne FLIR OEM was selected to support the U.S. Army’s Delivering Unmatched Thermal Capability Hastened (DUTCH) initiative to develop uncooled thermal infrared sensing technology for defense applications, the company announced in a statement.
The DUTCH program is focused on improving the performance of uncooled thermal sensors while reducing size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C), the statement reads. The effort also includes work to increase production capacity for thermal sensing components intended for future defense systems.
Uncooled thermal sensors are used in applications including uncrewed aerial systems (UAS), loitering munitions, thermal binoculars, and weapon sights, according to the company.
Under the award, Teledyne FLIR OEM will develop and demonstrate uncooled thermal imaging technologies and provide system-integration support to the Army effort, the statement reads.
The work builds on the company’s development of small-pixel-pitch uncooled thermal architectures and its manufacturing of thermal imaging modules in the United States, Teledyne FLIR OEM says. The initiative also seeks to expand domestic manufacturing capacity and supply chains for infrared sensing components used in defense systems.
