In the early days of the UFC, MMA trailblazer Art Jimmerson competed wearing just one boxing glove. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen anything like that in the Octagon, but we got close at Saturday’s UFC Seattle card.
UFC Seattle featured a number of memorable finishes. One of them occurred on the undercard, when flyweight contender Casey O’Neill scored a first-round TKO over Gabriella Fernandes. It was an impressive win, but on the surface, it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary.
As it turns out, it actually occurred under very strange circumstances.
Speaking to Ariel Helwani after her big UFC Seattle win, O’Neill revealed that she accidentally ended up wearing two left-handed gloves in the fight.
Here’s how she explained it:

“When I got out the back to take my photos, we realized that both my gloves were left-handed gloves,” O’Neill said. “I somehow fought in two left-handed gloves.
“I had no idea.”
Helwani understandably had immediate questions about how this could happen, specifically referencing the position of the thumb holes on the gloves.
O’Neill had no explanation for how she managed to get her right hand into a left-handed glove without noticing, but pointed to the fact that it was her first fight since mid-2024.
“I hadn’t fought in a long time, remember?” she said. “I put them on, and we went out there, and when we got out of the back we realized.
“They said it’s never happened before, because they come pre-packaged.”
Thankfully, the mix-up didn’t affect the outcome of O’Neill’s UFC Seattle fight. In fact, it went so well that she joked she’ll try it again in future fights.
“Somebody messed up, but it made me win better,” she said. “I guess that might be my new thing now. I might fight in two left-handed gloves every time.”
