We just reviewed Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game with an extremely positive rating, but it seems some players won’t get to hop onto the game as anticipated.
Paramount Games and Gameplay Group International has announced some unfortunate news about Avatar Legends hours before the game was set to release.
According to the teams, the Xbox version of Avatar is delayed outside of the July 23 launch date, and fans on that platform are going to need to wait more than a month.
Their Xbox release has been pushed back now to September 3, 2026.
They don’t go into the exact details as to why the decision was made at the last minute, but the statement claims it is due to “unforeseen circumstances on a backend feature.”
Those who have pre-orders on Xbox will get to keep them and won’t be cancelled.
We had been curious if the original Nintendo Switch version of Avatar Legends would have any limitations, and it appears that is going to be the case.
The statement reveals the Switch version of the game is only going to be available as the Standard Edition at launch.
Switch players will also not have access to cross-platform play against other systems either.
Moreover, only the English language localization is going to be in the game.
This does not seem to apply to the Nintendo Switch 2 version.
They state they plan to add crossplay, more language options and upgrades to the Deluxe Edition as soon as possible and will share updates on their progress soon.
It does not say if this means Switch players can’t buy Avatar’s Year 1 Character Pass in general, but hopefully these issues will be solved before the first DLC fighter launches.
With such a strong experience at the game’s core, it’s unfortunate to see some bad news come down right before players were supposed to get their hands on the special title.
Avatar Legends is still launching on July 23 for the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC for $30 while Xbox owners will need to wait until September 3 as mentioned above.

The official launch of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is almost here, and we can’t wait for players and fans around the world to jump in and start playing.
As we approach launch, we want to update our community on a few platform-specific details.
For Nintendo Switch players, the Nintendo Switch version will be available as the Standard Edition only. Additionally, crossplay with other platforms and language localization beyond English will not be available. We are committed to bringing these features, along with upgrading to Deluxe Edition, to players as soon as possible and will keep you updated on our timeline and progress.
For the Xbox community, we are forced to delay the release. Due to unforeseen circumstances on a backend feature, we will now launch by Sept. 3. Existing pre-orders will remain active and will
not be canceled.
Our priority is delivering the best possible experience on every platform and we are working tirelessly to make that happen. Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support. We’re excited to get everyone into the fight as soon as possible. Tune in here for updates as we have them.
