It’s easily one of the most exciting new announcements to drop in recent days. I’m talking about Calame, a brand-new Strategy RPG developed by Nextale Games, set to launch sometime in 2026.
Right after the announcement, a demo was also released; you can already find it on Steam.
Calame is an isometric tactical RPG set in Westalia, where rebellion, belief, and warfare are tied to the power of legends. Players lead an uneasy alliance between Kenmare, a force fighting for the people’s freedom, and the Panthers, a rival faction seeking to reclaim the throne from the King of Light.
Battles use handcrafted grid-based encounters built around positioning, unit direction, class roles, and party synergies, but the game adds its own twist through the Correction mechanic, which lets players spend Legend to reshape terrain during combat.
That can mean opening routes, cutting off enemies, or turning the battlefield itself into a tactical tool. Choices also feed into the Rebellion’s Chronicle, affecting relationships, alignment, passive traits, future missions, and the wider story.
With up to 15 playable characters, signature weapons, Overdrives, evolutions, camp scenes, and faction-driven playstyles, Calame looks aimed at players who like their strategy RPGs political, reactive, and mechanically layered.
I tried the demo, and I want to share with you a short video that highlights the combat system mechanics.
