Pascal van der Heiden, a solo dev also known as klapstoelpiloot, has announced his new turn-based, asynchronous tactical multiplayer game, Operation Defuse, set for both Android and iOS. This XCOM-inspired multiplayer game is currently in development, and alpha testing is expected to be released soon, per the Development Roadmap.
Get ready to outsmart opponents in turn-based combat
So, Operation Defuse is a new asynchronous, turn-based tactical title that blends the gameplay of games like Counter-Strike and XCOM. Here, you can take command of a terrorist’s team tasked with planting and detonating a bomb, or lead a special forces team to stop them. The game blends FPS elements with strategy, letting you control all five team members and plan every move carefully.
Before each match, you can customize your team, equip weapons and items, and choose from diverse classes such as the Activist. Once the battle begins, you decide where your unit moves, while your opponent responds during their time. You can also select target locations to throw grenades and Molotovs and set aim directions so your soldiers automatically fire when enemies enter their line of sight.
Between turns, you get to watch your opponent’s actions unfold whenever your units can see them. Personally, I think the concept looks promising, especially with features like Elo-based matchmaking, server-wide anti-cheat measures, and the ability to replay matches from your opponent’s perspective. That said, judging by the current development roadmap, I think the game will take quite a while to release.
Operation Defuse is currently in development for mobile. You can check the development roadmap on the official website as you wait for the game’s release. Stay tuned for more updates!
