Black Jack Studio has released the first gameplay trailer and a new collection of screenshots for Langrisser: Sea of Sword, offering a closer look at how the upcoming tactical RPG plans to expand the long-running series.
Described as a “next-generation fantasy tactical RPG,” the game is being developed by the original team behind Langrisser Mobile.
While the traditional system of heroes commanding soldiers remains intact, Sea of Sword introduces formations built around two heroes and two troop types. Players can assign primary and secondary commanders, then switch their positions during battle to alter their available skills and tactical functions.
The soldiers associated with both heroes can also be combined within the same squad, while certain character pairings unlock exclusive Hero Unity Skills.

Battlegrounds will play a more active role in each encounter. Elevation can provide a strategic advantage, while parts of the environment can be destroyed to open alternative routes or disrupt enemy formations.
Examples revealed by the developers include breaking through fortified walls during sieges and collapsing a stone bridge to prevent opposing troops from advancing. The new screenshots also highlight forests, castles, settlements, and other hand-drawn environments that players will encounter throughout the campaign.
Another significant departure from previous entries is the move away from a strictly linear sequence of isolated missions.

Players will instead explore a connected world containing towns, royal cities, caves, and wilderness areas.
These locations can hold environmental puzzles, resources, NPC encounters, and optional story material. A territory-management system will also allow players to develop a modest camp into a larger fortress capable of supporting their growing army. The newly launched Steam page provides additional details about these systems.
The story follows an amnesiac protagonist known as the Nameless, who travels alongside a mysterious white-haired girl named Eta.

Their journey leads them into an empire divided by political rivalries, competing factions, and struggles for survival. Familiar elements from the franchise will return as well, including infantry, cavalry, and flying units, alongside characters such as Leon, Elwin, and Sherry.
Langrisser: Sea of Sword will feature an original orchestral soundtrack composed by Yasunori Nishiki, known for his work on Octopath Traveler.
The free-to-play tactical RPG is currently in development for PC via Steam, iOS, and Android, with its release date still to be announced. Pre-registration is available through the official website, while the PC version can now be added to Steam wishlists.
