Khamzat Chimaev may have lost the middleweight title to Sean Strickland in the UFC 328 main event last weekend at Prudential Center in Newark, but he’s still the betting favorite ahead of their proposed rematch later this year. “Borz” currently sits at -205 on the moneyline opposite +175 for “Tarzan.”
That’s according to BetOnline.ag, who also has the former champ favored over one-time middleweight title challenger Paulo Costa. Chimaev opened at -500 against +375 for “The Eraser,” who now operates in the 205-pound weight class — a place “Borz” is expected to go at some point in the very near future.
“The rematch with Sean Strickland is the only fight that Khamzat wants, he is obsessed with it,” Chimaev’s team told ESPN. “That’s the only fight he will accept right now.”
He may have to wait in line.
Strickland has also been attached to a potential rematch against No. 3-ranked middleweight contender Nassourdine Imavov. The champion sits at -105 while the challenger opened at -115. No word yet on what matchmakers have planned for “Tarzan” after healing from his badly broken nose.
