Demetrious Johnson recently broke down the anatomy of Song Yadong’s brutal knockout of Umar Nurmagomedov at UFC Shanghai.
The two bantamweights faced off in the main event, which saw Nurmagomedov come in as a massive favorite. As expected, the Russian won the first round, though it was more competitive than most expected.

However, just over 100 seconds into the second round, a massive right hand from Yadong to the side of Nurmagomedov’s head flatlined the Dagestani, sending the crowd at the Oriental Sports Center into raptures. This was also the first time Nurmagomedov was finished in his MMA career.
Demetrious Johnson broke it down on his YouTube channel, explaining why the knockout “was so nasty:”
It’s a very, very bad position to be in…You’re wincing away, you have no idea what’s going on, then your body gets hit with something, and your body just shuts off. Your body doesn’t know what’s going on, it just shuts off. That’s why the knockout was so nasty.

Song Yadong Feels UFC Should Give Him The Title Shot
Following his win over Umar Nurmagomedov, the #6-ranked bantamweight Song Yadong made his feelings known about wanting a title shot next.

Stating that he “can finish everyone,” Yadong quipped (in an interview with UFC News):
I think the UFC should give me the title shot. I feel like I can finish everyone. I can finish Petr [Yan], I can finish Merab [Dvalishvili]. Even Sean [O’Malley] fight was very close, if there is a rematch, I can finish him too.
