Dana White believes Islam Makhachev is on the right trajectory to becoming the MMA GOAT.
Makhachev is set to defend his welterweight title in the main event of UFC 330 on Saturday in Philadelphia against Ian Machado Garry. It’s an intriguing fight, and with a win, Makhachev can break the record for most consecutive wins in UFC history with 17, surpassing Anderson Silva’s record of 16.
With Makhachev on the cusp of UFC history, UFC CEO Dana White was asked about his GOAT status, and he believes he’s closing in on it.
“I don’t think about that stuff until the fight happens,” White said after DWCS on Tuesday. “When we see his performance on Saturday, let’s see how it plays out. But obviously, breaking the record, you keep grinding, you keep fighting, you put your head down and just keep f*cking knocking guys down left and right, and then by the time you say, ‘You know what? I’m done.’ Then we all figure out where he ends up in the big picture. He’s on the right path, that’s for sure.”

Makhachev has become a two-weight champion, and if he continues to defend his belt, it will only add to his resume as being the GOAT.
However, White said he wants to leave all that talk until after Saturday, as he wants to see how Makhachev vs. Garry plays out at UFC 330.
“He’s got all the things there to be the guy,” White said. “I think we should talk about this Saturday night after the fight and see what we all think based off his performance on Saturday and breaking the record.”
Islam Makhachev enters UFC 330 with a record of 28-1 and is coming off a decision win over Jack Della Maddalena to defend his welterweight title. Before that, he beat Renato Moicano to defend his lightweight title.
