As American and Iranian diplomats gathered in early April in Islamabad for Pakistan‑mediated ceasefire talks to end the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran and its regional allies, including Hizballah, a sticking point emerged: whether the ceasefire was to include Lebanon. The United States and Israel initially rejected the notion that Lebanon had been part of the agreement, with President Donald Trump referring to Israeli operations there as a “separate skirmish.” Conversely, the Iranians signaled that Lebanon had been part of the agreement and threatened to unilaterally end the ceasefire if Israeli attacks continued against Lebanon.Although the ceasefire remains fragile, with Iran…
Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Republic of Poland 30.04.2026 The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following with concern the reports of actions taken by the Israeli armed forces against activists participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla, which declares to be delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. For decades, U.S. involvement in Libya has oscillated between neglect and fleeting moments of attention and resolve. But so far, the second Trump administration has displayed a surprising degree of interest in the oil-rich country. It appears to want to end the long-standing stalemate between Libya’s two ruling factions—the UN-recognized government of Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba in the west in Tripoli and the domain of Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, based in the eastern city of Benghazi. In the past year, this push has been spearheaded by Massad Boulos, U.S. President Donald Trump’s senior adviser for Arab and African affairs. After rounds…

The United States is withdrawing 5,000 troops from NATO ally Germany, the Pentagon announced on Friday, as a rift over the Iran war widens between President Donald Trump and Europe. Trump had threatened a drawdown in forces earlier this week after sparring with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who said on Monday the Iranians were humiliating the U.S. in talks to end the two-month-old war and that he did not see what exit strategy Washington was pursuing.A senior Pentagon official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said recent German rhetoric had been “inappropriate and unhelpful.”“The president is rightly reacting to these counterproductive…

This is the third part (I, II) of our series looking at how Carthage’s complex, multipart armies were raised and constituted. Last time, we looked at the backbone of Carthage’s armies: North African troops levied out of Carthage’s subject communities in North Africa. These fellows seem to have been directly employed by the Carthaginian state, paid for their service, equipped by the state and mustered in Carthage itself. But beyond these troops drawn from close to the core of Carthage’s empire, we also see a pattern of Carthage mobilizing troops from more loosely and indirectly controlled places. Carthage, by the…
