Mauricio Ruffy has a chance to insert his name in the conversation for a shot at the UFC lightweight champion when he enters the octagon to battle Arman Tsarukyan in the co-main event of UFC 331 on Sept. 19, and he jumped on the opportunity knowing the matchup is seen by many as a tricky one style-wise.Ruffy is one of the most flashy knockout artists in UFC today, having scored 13 of his 14 MMA wins by knockout, including devastating finishes against Michael Chandler, Rafael Fiziev and King Green under the UFC banner. Ruffy’s sole defeat in the UFC came…

President Donald Trump, in his second term, has severely tested the U.S.-Indian relationship. He has slapped tariffs on India, threatened to impose secondary sanctions, gotten considerably closer to Pakistan, and enthusiastically engaged with China—the country India considers its biggest long-term military threat. Yet these strains have not led to the rupture that some observers had predicted. Nor have they forced a fundamental reorientation of Indian foreign policy. Instead, New Delhi has adopted what might be called an “America plus” strategy, in which it seeks to sustain partnership with the United States while widening its engagement with other powers, namely U.S.…

The next U.S. aircraft carrier named USS Doris Miller will be enormous, nuclear-powered and designed to serve for roughly half a century. Yet its most unusual feature isn’t its size, propulsion system or aircraft capacity. It’s the story behind the name. The USS Doris Miller (CVN-81) is the fourth planned ship of the Gerald R. Ford class, a new generation of American supercarriers designed to generate more aircraft sorties, support future technologies and reduce some manpower and maintenance demands compared with the older Nimitz class. The Navy has described the Ford-class carriers as central platforms for crisis response, power projection and major…

Bella Mir was losing and her mom was boozing. My daughter is the same age as Bella so I would probably need a few drinks to watch her fight too. I don’t think anyone is holding that against her. But Jennifer Mir, who married former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir back in late 2024, took it one step further and vented her frustrations on social media, burying opponent Alex Apodaca for her bookie-busting upset atop Dana White’s “Contender Series.”“I want to address the comments I made after the fight,” Jennifer wrote on social media. “But first, I want to give you…

I recently read and finished the book about Canadian Kendo entitled, The Resilient Shinai, from Hirokazu Okusa. Reading Okusa’s book was in an effort to understand Kendo as it exists and how it is organized outside of Japan, as Japan has much of the focus for kendo history and discussion. To be fair, Kendo originated from Japan and had a multitude of evolutions and changes since its inception. What I was trying to do was broaden the horizon and broaden the scope of kendo history, essentially, to the larger world, including countries outside of Asia. When looking at kendo’s time…
