QUANTICO, Va. (AFNS) — For the first time, the Air Force Office of Special Investigations has certified a cadre of special agents to both operate and instruct others on the Skydio X10D as part of a broader effort to expand small unmanned aircraft system operations across the agency. Last month, six personnel completed a weeklong course at AFOSI headquarters in Quantico, Virginia, creating the first group of instructors positioned to bring the capability back to technical operations units in the field. “We not only learned how to operate the drones, but also how to properly instruct other individuals on…

La Ciotat (France), October 9th, 2026 – Exail unveils Neptis, its new integrated autonomous maritime surveillance system designed to coordinate distributed autonomous assets. Built around the new Oryx family of Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs), defense-grade payloads and an integrated mission command-and-control system, Neptis is designed to extend the reach and persistence of maritime surveillance. Designed for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Critical Undersea Infrastructure Protection (CUIP) and Counter-Uncrewed Aerial Systems (C-UAS) missions, Neptis acts as a force multiplier while preserving high-value crewed platforms for the missions where they matter most. A specter looms over the US Army: the threat of positional warfare. For four years, we have watched with growing concern as the Ukraine conflict—our clearest lens into future interstate combat—has settled into a grinding stalemate, a collision of World War I tactics and Star Wars technology. The problem is well understood. The proliferation of unmanned systems has dramatically increased the density, lethality, and reach of the reconnaissance-fires complex. While the battlefield is not entirely transparent, it is sufficiently saturated with sensors that mounted formations are reliably identified, tracked, and engaged on the approach march under a compressed sensor-to-shooter cycle.…
GERMANTOWN, Md., Friday, October 9, 2026 – U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has awarded Marconi Technologies an initial contract to supply Orion X604 tactical radios to a U.S. special operations unit. The radios will connect operators to sensors on autonomous systems and with allied forces on shared tactical networks using next generation waveforms. Deliveries are expected to begin in late 2026. Orion is Marconi’s family of software-defined tactical radios, built for high-throughput, resilient communications in contested environments. The Orion X604 is the newest member of the Orion family. It brings the frequency agility, dual-channel reconfigurability and waveforms of the Orion…
Strange Scaffold’s new tactical RPG explores police authority, moral choices, and brutal turn-based encounters in a dystopian city. Strange Scaffold, the independent studio behind I Am Your Beast and El Paso, Elsewhere, has announced Gods With Badges, a narrative-driven tactics game that puts players in the role of a police officer operating in a dystopian future. Revealed during the October Triple-i Initiative showcase, the project mixes isometric turn-based combat with investigations, dialogue choices, and a story focused on the consequences of wielding authority. The story follows Harrow McClellan, a disgraced officer reassigned to her former posting after a scandal destroyed…
A kill chain measured in seconds cannot depend on processes measured in weeks or months. The Pentagon recognizes that drone proliferation and AI-enabled lethal targeting are reducing decision cycles and increasing the premium on speed. The 2025 drone and acquisition reforms and the 2026 Artificial Intelligence Strategy call for faster procurement, fewer integration barriers, open architectures, continuous experimentation, and greater access to emerging technology.Yet the experience of myself and fellow soldiers in the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division (1/82), before and during its deployment in support of Operation Epic Fury shows that this reform agenda falls short at…
Hundreds of family members of sailors and Marines who were killed and buried as “Unknowns” when Japanese warplanes bombed the battleship Arizona are expected to gather in Hawaii on Dec. 7, the 85th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attacks, as the Defense Department begins exhumations that could lead to identifications and the return of remains to their loved ones. The battleship suffered more loss of life than any American ship during the attack, its 1,177 dead comprising nearly half the 2,403 killed at Pearl Harbor.Of the ship’s dead, 277 of its sailors and Marines are buried in Honolulu’s National Memorial of…
