The Homeland Security Department’s inspector general this week rejected a Government Accountability Office report on how the Coast Guard Investigative Service and DHS OIG could address overlaps in their respective investigative jurisdictions, saying that the suggestions would “diminish” his agency’s authority. “Your draft report’s failure to acknowledge DHS OIG’s primacy over internal department investigate bodies devalues DHS OIG’s independence, as envisioned by Congress and enumerated in the Inspector General Act and instead treats DHS OIG as just one body among equals insofar as department oversight is concerned,” wrote IG Joseph Cuffari in a letter attached to the Wednesday report. “I am…
The United States is preparing Misawa Air Base in northern Japan to support the future deployment of F-35A stealth fighter aircraft, as part of a broader effort to modernize U.S. air power in the western Pacific. According to the report by Newsweek journalist Ryan Chan, the Pentagon plans to deploy 48 F-35A Lightning II jets […]
Federal agents on Saturday fatally shot a man protesting immigration-enforcement activities in Minneapolis. The man was later revealed to be an employee of the Veterans Affairs Department, working as an intensive-care-unit nurse at the medical center in the city where he was killed. Alex Jeffrey Pretti, 37, was taken to the ground by several federal agents before one of them shot him. Pretti gathered with other protestors as Border Patrol was conducting what it called a targeted operation to detain an individual it said was in the country illegally. Trump-administration officials accused Pretti of approaching Border Patrol agents with a weapon and…
Arman Tsarukyan doesn’t believe Paddy Pimblett is a high-level lightweight following UFC 324. Pimblett had a chance to capture the interim UFC Lightweight Championship this past Saturday in Las Vegas. Pimblett’s interim title fight against Justin Gaethje headlined UFC’s debut event on Paramount+. While Pimblett had some bright spots, it was Gaethje who emerged victorious via unanimous decision. During an interview with Megan Olivi on the UFC 324 post-show, Tsarukyan said the result didn’t surprise him. “I told everybody Justin’s gonna win by decision,” Tsarukyan said. When asked about Pimblett’s strategy, Tsarukyan put the No. 5-ranked lightweight on blast. “I…
Manama, Bahrain — Decommissioned Avenger-class Mine Countermeasures ships were safely moved as part of ongoing U.S. Navy force transition efforts in the region. The movement evolution required detailed planning, coordination, and disciplined execution to ensure the safe transport of the decommissioned MCM’s. Mission partners worked together to maintain operational standards, prioritize safety, and ensure accountability throughout each phase of the evolution. These efforts support continued fleet readiness and responsible transition of legacy platforms, while sustaining operational momentum and mission effectiveness across the maritime domain.

The IDF’s Carmel programme de facto shifted from development of a new armoured fighting vehicle to become a technology integration project around 2021. This piece examines some of the highlights to have emerged from the project thus far, and provides a glimpse of what to expect going forward. The Carmel programme was launched by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in 2016 with the aim of developing a next-generation armoured fighting vehicle (AFV) concept that would be more agile and versatile than legacy systems. It would require a crew of only two (rather than the standard three or four) who would…
The F-104 Starfighter didn’t just fly fast, it terrified people. Some pilots loved it. Others quietly called it a missile with a seat. And depending on who you ask, it was either one of the boldest fighter designs of the Cold War… or a jet that asked far too much from the humans inside it. […]
Here’s a look at all the new turn-based RPGs available right now, based on their recent releases. For those who might not know, this is the weekend roundup where I gather every project that debuted over the past few days in any form, nothing gets left out, whether it’s a demo, a playtest, an early access launch, or a full release. This recap is especially packed, so much so that I had to filter out a few titles, which I only do when there’s an overload. I’m pretty sure you didn’t know about many of these, so go ahead, try…
The TWZ Newsletter Weekly insights and analysis on the latest developments in military technology, strategy, and foreign policy. The ‘legacy’ F-15C/D may now be a dwindling presence in the U.S. Air Force, but the jets still support vital test work with NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center. NASA has long flown different F-15 variants for numerous kinds of missions and recently added to its fleet with another pair of jets cascaded down from the Air Force. Meanwhile, older F-15s are also continuing to take on new test assignments with NASA, having already contributed enormously to its military and civilian research programs,…
