ELT Group has shared with Armada that the company has won several undisclosed customers for its ELT/577 Quiris Directional Infrared Countermeasure (DIRCM). These customers are installing the equipment onboard rotary-wing attack, search-and-rescue and reconnaissance aircraft; and fixed-wing maritime patrol and airlift platforms. ELT Group continued that the ELT/577 replaces the legacy ELT/572 system which employed a fibre laser architecture. “Quiris utilises a more advanced solid-state quantum cascade technology”, the company told Armada via a written statement. Quantum cascade technology “provides greater laser module power” compared to other approaches. The entire Quiris system is housed in a single 44-pound (20-kilogram) box which contrasts with the three units encompassing the ELT/572. “The system also features a multi-turret management capability, supporting platforms that require more than one turret either to ensure full coverage based on the aircraft’s signature or to meet specific operational requirements”. Furthermore, “QUIRIS is effective against the latest imaging-type threats. It achieves this by functionally integrating with the platform’s flare system, as neither flares nor DIRCM alone are effective against these threats”.
New Krypto1000 adornments
Last month, Armada reported that COMINT Consulting had performed a major overhaul of its Krypto500 Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) system. The company recently shared with us that similar improvements are in the offing for its Krypto1000 very high frequency (30 megahertz/MHz to 300MHz), ultra-high frequency (300MHz to three gigahertz/GHz) and super high frequency (three gigahertz to 30GHz) digital signals decoder and analysis suite. The Krypto1000 supports tactical and strategic SIGINT work. According to COMINT Consulting, the improvements mean that “(a)ll modes, all spread factors are decoded in their entirety” and that “several parsers are included to exploit the most popular protocols (namely) LoRaWAN, LoRaRTK, MeshCore, MeshTastic as well as support for map output” the company disclosed in a written statement. These improvements will help SIGINT analysis in support of counterintelligence, counter-trafficking and counterinsurgency tasks. Map output support will mean that emitters of interest can be geolocated and plotted on a cartographic display. The company expects to make additional announcements concerning other Krypto1000 features in late August, Armada understands.
