Carlos Prates has shared his prediction for the upcoming welterweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Ian Machado Garry.
The two will square off at UFC 330, which is set to take place at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this Saturday.
In a video shared by UFC on their social media, Prates predicted that the fight would go to the judges’ scorecards, adding that the challenger would emerge victorious. He said:
UFC 330 – Ian Garry is gonna beat [Islam] Makhachev by decision. I don’t know if it is unanimous or split decision, but it’s gonna be decision.
Check out Carlos Prates’ prediction for UFC 330 below:
Makhachev, in his first 170lb title defense, comes into the fight following a unanimous decision win over Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322. He has not lost a fight since 2015, and also held the lightweight belt for almost three years.
Garry, on the other hand, is on a two-fight winning streak, with his last win coming against former welterweight champ Belal Muhammad, back in November 2025. Like Makhachev, Garry has also lost just once in his MMA career (to Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310).
Ian Machado Garry beat Carlos Prates only last year
Ian Machado Garry has a win over Carlos Prates in the UFC, and it came only last year as he beat the Brazilian via unanimous decision. It also happens to be Prates’ only loss so far in the UFC.
The very active Prates went on to fight three times since then, earning brutal KO wins over veterans of the sport in Leon Edwards and Geoff Neal. In fact, the 32-year-old became the first man to finish Edwards.

Prates then beat former welterweight champ Jack Della Maddalena via TKO three months back in May 2026. Should Garry beat Makhachev at UFC 330, a rematch against Prates could very well be on the cards.
