On February 18, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Cuba, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, who is in Russia on a working visit.
During the meeting, which took place in a traditionally friendly and trusting atmosphere, the foreign ministers reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening their allied strategic partnership across a broad range of areas. They also discussed current global and regional issues.
The Russian side strongly condemned Washington’s illegitimate sanctions against Havana, as well as the economic and military pressure exerted on the Cuban state and its citizens. The unacceptability of imposing restrictive measures on Cuba in the energy sector was emphasised.
Consistent support for Havana’s just demand for an immediate end to the US trade, economic, and financial embargo was reaffirmed, as well as for Cuba’s removal from the State Department’s list of state sponsors of terrorism.
