Persona 5 Royal
- Developer: Atlus
- Release Date: 21 October, 2022
- Platform: Windows, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch
- Steam Page
From series newcomers to longtime fans, Persona 5 has captured the hearts of players in a big way, and it’s easy to see why. This is one JRPG that’s absolutely dripping with charm and panache, so if you haven’t tried it yet the Royal Edition is the best way to don the mask of the Phantom Thieves.
Better yet, Steam has Persona 5 Royal at 70% off, taking the price from $59.99 down to $17.99. It’s a great reason to fire up the Steam Deck, and you can also get P5R as part of several bundles, either with other Persona games or with Atlus’ other recent masterpiece… but more on that later.
Kaiju Wars
- Developer: Foolish Mortals Games, Michael Long
- Release Date: 28 April, 2022
- Platform: Windows, Mac, Linux, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch
- Steam Page

If you’re looking for the logical next step up from Into The Breach, Kaiju Wars has a familiar small grid menaced by monsters, with unique gameplay and aesthetics to set it apart.
Much more evocative of classic movies, it puts you in command of a small army tasked with bringing down one rampaging monster while keeping casualties to a minimum. It’s harder than it sounds, and the kaiju get stronger the longer it takes you to stop them.
Kaiju Wars has a free demo available on Steam, but at 85% off it might be worth just snatching the full game while it’s on sale. It’s hard to argue with getting a $19.99 game for just $2.99, and there are a few bundles with cool, quirky games that include Kaiju Wars as well.
Reverie Knights Tactics
- Developer: 40 Giants Entertainment
- Release Date: 25 January, 2022
- Platform: Windows, Mac, Linux, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch
- Steam Page

There are tons of tactical RPGs to choose from, but Reverie Knights Tactics sets itself apart with its hand-animated battles, narrative focus, and combo-driven gameplay. You can always tell when developers put their heart and soul into a game, and this is one of them.
You can get Reverie Knights Tactics on Steam for just $2.99 during the Summer Sale, saving 85% off its normal price of $19.99. You can also get it bundled with Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark, another gorgeous TRPG, setting off on two full adventures for a fraction of the price of one.
Fights in tight spaces
- Developer: Ground Shatter
- Release Date: 2 December, 2021
- Platform: Windows, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch
- Steam Page

This tactical deck-builder recreates the quick-thinking brawls of action movies, pitting your lone hero against gangs of henchmen. With little room to maneuver (hence the name) and the odds stacked against you, every move counts, and by the end of it you’ll feel like a turn-based Jason Bourne.
Fights In Tight Spaces is 80% off on Steam, available for $4.99 rather than its usual $24.99. The Complete Edition, which includes all the DLC, is 63% off at $17.55, and the medieval fantasy spinoff Knights In Tight Spaces is 75% off at $4.99. You can even get the two games bundled together and save an extra 15%!
Metaphor: Refantazio
- Developer: Atlus
- Release Date: 10 October, 2024
- Platform: Windows, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch 2
- Steam Page

Atlus is known for deep, high-quality JRPGs, but Metaphor: ReFantazio managed to set the bar even higher than it already was. This massive fantasy RPG takes cues from Shin Megami Tensei and Persona, offering an experience so complete that it’s essentially the gold standard for JRPGs in the 2020s.
In other words, this isn’t a game that you want to miss out on, but the $69.99 price tag can be a bit daunting. The Steam Summer Sale has Metaphor discounted 60% on all editions, letting you get the standard edition for just $27.99, or grab all the DLC in the Atlus 35th Anniversary Edition for $39.99.
If you’re looking for more of the best JRPGs of the decade so far, Metaphor is also available bundled with either Persona 5 Royal or Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Langrisser I & II
- Developer: Chara-ani Corporation
- Release Date: 10 March, 2020
- Platform: Windows, PlayStation, Switch
- Steam Page

An early competitor to games like Fire Emblem and Shining Force, Langrisser didn’t see much traction outside of Japan, outside of a small fanbase, who knew it as Warsong in 1991. If you’re a fan of classic TRPGs, be sure to check out the remaster of the first two games in the series, with fully-updated visuals and voiceover!
Langrisser I & II are sold as a single title on Steam, where you can get them for $14.99 during the Summer Sale and save 70% off the list price of $49.99. The discount also applies to all the DLC, whether you buy them separately or as part of the Limited Edition.
Oakenfold
- Developer: Rutger van Dijk
- Release Date: 17 November, 2022
- Platform: Windows, Mac
- Steam Page

Oakenfold takes the FOMO out of tactical battles; normally, when you have to worry about permadeath, there’s always a feeling that you might not have made the optimal move.
In Oakenfold, your TimeScrubber lets you undo and redo actions to find the perfect path through a tough situation. You’re going to need it, too, since it’s just you against the creatures destroying the world.
Oakenfold is worth the price even at $19.99, so saving 80% and getting it for $3.99 on Steam is an amazing deal. There’s no DLC to worry about, either, so you’ll get the full experience in one go.
Symphony of War
- Developer: Dancing Dragon Games
- Release Date: 10 June, 2022
- Platform: Windows
- Steam Page

Symphony of War is a bit like Fire Emblem meets Ogre Battle, but once you’ve played it for just a few minutes, you’ll find that it combines the two to create an experience all its own.
Its familiar grid-based battles have an extra layer of depth as each hero also has a unit of troops under their command, whose class and formation dramatically change the outcome of combat.
This is a great indie take on the classics, and at 65% off during the Steam Summer Sale, there’s hardly a better time to give it a try. Normally $19.99, you can get it for $6.99, or get the Deluxe Edition which includes the Legends DLC for $13.03. Symphony of War is also part of the Turn-Based Bundle, a collection of fantastic indie TRPGs that are all well worth the price – especially on sale!
Ignited Steel
- Developer: Yokaicide
- Release Date: 9 March, 2022
- Platform: Windows, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch
- Steam Page

Ignited Steel puts you in command of a squadron of outdated mechs, the only ones safe from being taken over by a sentient AI that’s hacked the rest of the armada.
The old piles of junk are prone to overheating, so you’ll need to be as efficient as possible as you guide your team of pilots and improve your squad on each roguelike run.
Steam has Ignited Steel for just $2.99 right now, an 80% discount off its list price of $14.99. The soundtrack is available separately, and while it’s usually $4.99, the discount applies there as well so you can tack it on for just $0.99!
Tactics Ogre: Reborn
- Developer: Square Enix
- Release Date: 11 November, 2022
- Platform: Windows, PlayStation, Switch
- Steam Page

Sure, you’ve probably played Final Fantasy Tactics, but what about Tactics Ogre? It’s got a lot of the same gameplay and themes, and had just as much impact on TRPGs, but outside of the longtime fans, it’s only just now getting the attention it deserves thanks to Tactics Ogre: Reborn.
This is the definitive way to play this classic strategy, and it has lots of endgame content for veteran players as well!
Tactics Ogre: Reborn usually goes for $49.99, but for the Steam Summer Sale, it’s 70% off at $14.99. The Digital Premium Edition, which includes the soundtrack by Hitoshi Sakimoto, is also 70% off, landing at a very reasonable $17.99.
The Magister
- Developer: Nerdook Productions
- Release Date: 2 September, 2021
- Platform: Windows, Xbox, Switch
- Steam Page

The Magister takes roguelite deck-building and applies it to a murder mystery! There’s combat, but there’s also negotiation and deduction as you attempt to figure out who is guilty.
Best of all, the clues and culprits are randomized on each playthrough, so you really do have to put your sleuthing skills to use every time.
The Magister is just $2.99 right now on Steam, an 80% discount off its usual price of $14.99. It’s also available as part of several different bundles, all of which have very generous discounts of their own, so you can bulk out your collection for just $10-$20 or so.
Lost Eidolons
- Developer: Ocean Drive Studio, Inc.
- Release Date: 13 October, 2022
- Platform: Windows, PlayStation, Xbox
- Steam Page

Think Fire Emblem meets Game of Thrones and you’ll have a pretty good idea of what to expect from this dark-fantasy TRPG. As a mercenary captain caught up in a civil war, you’ll have to put your leadership and tactical skills to the test if you want your troops to survive the growing conflict.
Lost Eidolons has a lot going for it, and a $34.99 price tag isn’t too bad, but $13.99 is even better.
That’s what you’ll pay if you get the game during the Steam Summer Sale, saving 60%. The discount applies to the Digital Deluxe Edition as well, which includes the artbook and soundtrack. You can also get Lost Eidolons bundled with its roguelite spinoff, Veil of the Witch, and explore the growing setting even more!
Rising Army
- Developer: Arkbits
- Release Date: 6 March, 2026
- Platform: Windows
- Steam Page

Rising Army is a lot deeper than it looks, and it doesn’t take long to get hooked. Your task is to build a war camp, training and equipping troops capable of going out on campaign and winning battles.
The King has a lot of demands that you’ll have to meet, to say nothing of simple survival. If you’re looking for a quirky challenge (and a fairly recent game to boot), check this one out.
Rising Army is 50% off on Steam, taking it from $11.99 to just $5.99. It’s also available in a few different bundles with similar games, including Full Metal Sergeant II for those of you looking to train soldiers in both medieval and modern settings.
The Lamplighters League
- Developer: Harebrained Schemes
- Release Date: 3 October, 2023
- Platform: Windows, Xbox
- Steam Page

The Lamplighters’ League‘s pulp-adventure world is already plenty to grab your attention. Once you start your globetrotting campaign to stop an evil conspiracy, it only gets better.
Real-time stealth infiltration gives way to turn-based tactical combat, giving you plenty of chances to get the drop on your foes… or go in guns blazing and fists flying!
You can get The Lamplighters’ League for just $12.49 on Steam during the Summer Sale, saving 75% off its usual price of $49.99. The Deluxe Edition, which includes all the DLC, is 67% off at $18.76. If hybrid real-time and turn-based exploration is your thing, you can get it bundled with Miasma Chronicles, or if you’re looking for more World War II-era tactical action it’s available together with Classified: France ’44.
Mahokenshi
- Developer: Game Source Studio
- Release Date: 24 January, 2023
- Platform: Windows, Mac
- Steam Page

Mahokenshi sets itself apart from other tactical deck-builders by leaning into a samurai-fantasy style similar to Legend of the Five Rings.
What’s really striking about this game, though, is just how pretty it is. It’s rare to see a deck-builder with this much visual appeal beyond the cards themselves, making Mahokenshi even more worth checking out.
You can try the free demo on Steam, and the full game is currently 75% off. Normally $24.99, it’s down to $6.24 for the duration of the Summer Sale. The soundtrack is also 75% off, so you can add it to your collection for just $1.49 if you’re so inclined.
Ash of Gods: The Way
- Developer: AurumDust
- Release Date: 27 April, 2023
- Platform: Windows, Switch, Android
- Steam Page

Another great-looking deck-builder is Ash of Gods: The Way, which plays more like a puzzler than a traditional roguelite.
Your card skills are important, but with each battle stacked against you, it’s more about finding the way out than crushing your foe with an all-powerful build. Even if you haven’t played the other Ash of Gods game, Redemption this is a dark, violent fantasy tale you won’t soon forget.
The Way is just $6.24 on Steam right now, a 75% discount off its list price of $24.99. The Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes the artbook and soundtrack, is 78% off at $7.69. If you’re curious about the world of the game, you can also get it bundled with Ash of Gods: Redemption, which takes place twenty years beforehand, for just $9.79 total.
Showgunners
- Developer: Artificer
- Release Date: 2 May, 2023
- Platform: Windows, PlayStation
- Steam Page

If you’ve played enough tactical games, you know the basics; use cover, outflank your enemy, and focus fire.
Showgunners takes place on the set of a televised arena full of deadly traps and deadlier foes, so there’s one more thing to consider – keep the audience entertained! As you win more fights, you’ll get sponsorship deals, fans, and fame in your quest for vengeance.
Steam has Showgunners for 70% off, taking its price from $29.99 down to $8.99. The Deluxe Editin, which includes a bonus costume, the soundtrack, and an artbook, is 69% off at $13.11, and you can get the game bundled with Sumerian Six for $14.16.
The Last Spell
- Developer: Ishtar Games
- Release Date: 9 March, 2023
- Platform: Windows, PlayStation, Switch
- Steam Page

The Last Spell pits your small band of hapless heroes against a massive horde of fiendish monsters in a desperate final stand.
Each day you’ll prepare your defenses, but it won’t be enough – at night, dozens or even hundreds of monsters will descend on your town, all to the most blood-pumping metal soundtrack you’ve ever heard in a strategy game.
This is one game that will give you a run for your money, and at 75% off that’s money well spent. Normally $24.99, The Last Spell is just $6.24 during the Steam Summer Sale. The Definitive Edition, which contains all the DLC, is 40% off at $26.99, and the Legendary Edition, which includes all of the above plus the aforementioned soundtrack, is 33% off at $20.48.
Evertried
- Developer: Lunic Games
- Release Date: 21 October, 2021
- Platform: Windows, Mac, Linux, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch
- Steam Page

Evertried is a rock-solid indie TRPG that reacts to your actions. Enemy movements are based on your own, so not only can you predict what they’ll do, but you can force them into positions where you can easily defeat them… if you think far enough ahead and use your Skills effectively, of course.
The free demo of Evertried will likely leave you itching for the full game, so it’s a good thing that it’s 75% off on Steam right now. $19.99 is a very reasonable price for a game like this, but $4.99 is even better. It’s also available with the soundtrack for $5.61, or as part of several different bundles.
Untamed Tactics
- Developer: Grumpy Owl Games
- Release Date: 28 August, 2023
- Platform: Windows, Mac
- Steam Page

In Untamed Tactics, you and your companions will explore the dangerous Wilds, fighting tense tactical battles with a cast of unique characters. You can do battle the old-fashioned way, or try to talk enemies into surrendering, depending on their individual personalities.
Untamed Tactics is just $5.99 on Steam right now, a 70% discount off its standard price of $19.99.
The Humblewood Edition, which includes the DLC of the same name, is listed as a bundle, so consider getting it if you decide to get the game – you’ll get both the base game and DLC at 70% off, and score the 10% bundle discount on top of that!
Heroes of Might and Magic III
- Developer: Dotemu
- Release Date: 29 January, 2015
- Platform: Windows
- Steam Page

Look, if you’re here at Turn-Based Lovers, do I really need to sell you on Heroes of Might and Magic III, of all games? It’s a strategy game so legendary that Olden Era became Steam’s most-wishlisted game based on nostalgia for the series in general but HOMM3 in particular.
The Definitive Edition is an HD Remaster of the iconic Restoration of Erathia campaign in all its fantasy glory, and it’s just as good now as it was in 1999.
Few games have stood the test of time like Heroes III, so $14.99 is perfectly reasonable despite the 30th anniversary quickly approaching. That said, $3.74 is a bargain for this PC-gaming GOAT, so be sure to grab it on Steam for 75% off while you can. As it happens, Olden Era is 25% off during the Summer Sale as well, making this a great chance to get the old and the new in one go.
Persona 5 Tactica
- Developer: Atlus
- Release Date: 16 November, 2023
- Platform: Windows, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch
- Steam Page

Spinoffs of universally-acclaimed games don’t always stick the landing, but leave it to Atlus to try something completely different with the beloved cast of Persona 5 and make a fantastic new experience.
Persona 5 Tactica is a separate story featuring the Phantom Thieves in a new world, with Chibi character designs and grid-based tactical battles, all with Persona‘s signature style.
P5T is a full-sized game, with a price tag to match at $59.99, so if you’ve had it sitting on your Wishlist the Summer Sale is a great time to swoop in and grab it. A 70% discount lets you add the game to your library for $17.99, or you can get the Digital Deluxe Edition – which includes a new Persona, weapons, and more – at 75% off for $19.99.
The DLCs are all 40% off, but the All-In-One DLC Pack is 50% off at $14.99, so if you decide to go all-in, that’s the best option.
Worldless
- Developer: Noname Studios
- Release Date: 20 November, 2023
- Platform: Windows, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch
- Steam Page

Like Monster Sanctuary, Worldless blends Metroidvania exploration with turn-based battles. Its surreal, stylized characters and environments make it a true journey into the unknown as you explore a newly-born universe.
Worldless has a free demo on Steam, and the full game is discounted 65% for the Summer Sale. Normally $19.99, it’s available for $6.99, and the Deluxe Edition (which includes the soundtrack) is 58% off at $9.43.
If you’re in a platforming mood, Worldless is part of the Flow Platformers Bundle, together with three similar games.
Master of Magic
- Developer: MuHa Games, Eerie Forest Studio
- Release Date: 13 December, 2022
- Platform: Windows
- Steam Page

For classic games getting a visual makeover while leaving their old-school feel intact, there are few better examples than the 2022 remake of Master of Magic.
The gameplay and setting are just as immersive as they were in the ’90s, but visually it stands alongside modern titles like SpellForce: Conquest of Eo. If you’re looking for a return to the glory days, this is the way to get there.
Master of Magic is 60% off on Steam right now, taking its price from $39.99 down to $15.99. The Complete Edition, which includes all the DLC and the Classic Edition of the game, plus some desktop wallpapers for good measure, is $37.09, getting you the whole kit for less than the base edition of the game full price.
Phantom Brigade
- Developer: Brace Yourself Games
- Release Date: 28 February, 2023
- Platform: Windows
- Steam Page

Phantom Brigade has likely been on a lot of people’s radar thanks to its mech designs and neat timeline-based action system.
The fairly recent 2.0 update has given the game a major overhaul, with tons of upgrades to everything from pilot recruitment to gear to the campaign and more. If you’ve been waiting to try it or haven’t played since the update, it’s well worth a look.
Phantom Brigade has a free demo available on Steam, and the full game is just $11.99 right now, a 60% discount off the standard price of $29.99. It’s also part of several different bundles with great games like Tactical Breach Wizards and Invisible, Inc., so there are plenty of reasons to give it a try.
