The UFC was in Miami, Florida, for UFC 327 on Saturday. In the main event, the vacant light heavyweight title is up for grabs as Carlos Ulberg takes on Jiri Prochazka in a highly anticipated bout.
Ulberg entered the bout riding a nine-fight winning streak and was coming off a KO win over Dominick Reyes. Prochazka, meanwhile, was riding back-to-back knockout wins over Khalil Rountree and Jamahal Hill and was looking to reclaim his light heavyweight title.
In the end, it was Ulberg who won by first-round KO in a stunning result. Ulberg hurt his knee early on in the fight. Despite being on one leg, was able to land a KO punch. Following UFC 327 on Saturday, here is what I think should be next for the fighters involved in the title fight.
Carlos Ulberg
Carlos Ulberg got his chance to become the UFC’s light heavyweight champion on Saturday, and early on, it looked like it wasn’t going his way. Ulberg hurt his knee as it looked like he tore something, and was basically on one leg. But, as he was backed up against the fence, he landed a massive punch that KO’d Prochazka.
Although Ulberg became the UFC’s light heavyweight champion, he likely will be off for several months to rehab the injury. So, how the title picture fares once he returns is uncertain, as an interim title could be next. But, a logical next bout would be against Magomed Ankalaev, who’s the former champ and the No. 1 contender. And, he’d likely be favored to win an interim belt against the top contenders.
Jiri Prochazka
Jiri Prochazka was looking to reclaim his light heavyweight title on Saturday, and it appeared it was a matter of time until he won. However, Prochazka rushed into shots instead of waiting out Ulberg and his knee and got caught, which was disappointing for him.
With the loss, Prochazka will need another win or two to get back to the title picture. So, a logical next bout would be to face the winner of Jan Blachowicz vs. Bogdan Guskov 2. And if it’s Blachowicz, it’s a fight that is years in the making.
