Della Maddalena (16-4 MMA) will be returning to action for the first time since losing the promotion‘s welterweight title to Islam Makhachev at UFC 322 in November of last year. Prior to that setback, ‘JDM’ had put together an eighteen-fight winning streak, which included victories over Belal Muhammad, Gilbert Burns and Kevin Holland.
Meanwhile, Carlos Prates (24-7 MMA) most previously took to the Octagon at UFC 322 in Madison Square Garden, where he scored a second-round knockout victory over former title holder Leon Edwards (see that here). ‘The Nightmare’ has gone 4-1 over his past five fights, earning all four wins by way of knockout and having his lone loss come against Ian Machado Garry via decision.

Round one of the UFC Perth main event begins and Carlos Prates gets things strarted with a calf kick. Prates circles along the fence. Jack Della Maddalena lands a jab to the body. Another nice body shot from ‘JDM’. Prates responds with a hard low kick. Now a solid jab that connects flush. Maddalena tries to clinch against the fence, but Prates quickly scrambles free. Prates with a solid 1-2 followed by a knee. Another nice knee to the body. Jack scores a takedown with 25 seconds left but doesn’t do much with it.
Round two begins and Carlos Prates lands a knee to the head of Jack Della Maddalena as the Aussie attempt to catch his leg. ‘JDM’ trying to establish his jab. He shoots for a double leg takedown and gets it, but Prates quickly scrambles back up to his feet. Another knee to the head from Carlos. ‘JDM’ replies with a stiff jab and then an uppercut. Prates with a big combination and then a head kick. Maddalena is hurt! Prates with a nasty elbow that sends his opponent down. Jack survives to see round three.

Round three of the UFC Perth main event begins and Carlos Prates is quickly back to work. He scores a pair of knockdowns but Jack Della Maddalena continues to get back up. Prates with another knee and then an elbow. Prates drops the Aussie with a hard low kick and follows him to the ground to ground. Big elbows from Prates and this one fight all over! WOW!
