What makes the M200 particularly interesting, though, is that it was developed as more than just a rifle. The system was built around the cartridge, rifle, optics, and ballistic-support equipment working together. Its .408 CheyTac cartridge was conceived to occupy a ballistic niche between .338 Lapua Magnum and .50 BMG, while the rifle incorporates features intended to improve stability and repeatability.

The AXSR is a long-action rifle available in several cartridges, including .338 Lapua Magnum, .338 Norma Magnum, .300 Norma Magnum, .300 PRC, and .300 Winchester Magnum. Depending on configuration, it uses barrels from 26 to 27 inches for the larger cartridges. The .338 Lapua Magnum version, for example, has a 27-inch barrel with a 1:9.35 twist rate.

Its construction is equally deliberate. The rifle combines a proofed EN24T steel action with an aluminum chassis and stainless-steel match-grade barrels. A six-lug bolt uses a 60-degree throw, while the two-stage trigger is set at approximately 2.5 pounds in the current sporting configuration.

Developed by Accuracy International as part of the British Army’s Sniper System Improvement Programme (SSIP), the L115A3 is chambered in 8.59mm (.338 Lapua Magnum). The British Army lists the rifle at 6.8 kg, with a 1,300 mm overall length, a five-round magazine, a muzzle velocity of 936 m/s, and an effective range of 1,100+ meters.

In 2009, British Army sniper Corporal of Horse Craig Harrison used an L115A3 in Afghanistan to hit two Taliban machine gunners at 2,475 meters.
