At the invitation of Shihan Pierre Grondin, KWF representative for Réunion Island, and Sensei Sandip Vencatakistnen, KWF representative for Mauritius, Shihan António Pereira, 6th dan, completed a series of important events aimed at promoting and strengthening KWF Kyokushin in the southern Indian Ocean.
The programme included an international technical training camp, the TOKIO CUP 2026, technical seminars across Mauritius and an official reception by the President of the Republic of Mauritius.
International Technical Training Camp in Réunion Island
During his visit to Réunion Island, Shihan António Pereira participated in an international technical training camp that brought together approximately 160 Kyokushin practitioners.
The event provided an important opportunity for technical development, knowledge exchange and the strengthening of friendships between karateka from different countries.
Through intensive training and shared experience, the participants demonstrated the unity, discipline and mutual respect that characterise Kyokushin Karate.
TOKIO CUP 2026
The programme continued with the TOKIO CUP 2026, considered the largest Kyokushin championship in the Indian Ocean region.
More than 250 male and female athletes competed in kumite and kata across the junior, senior and veteran categories.
For the first time in the tournament’s history, the event welcomed several international delegations, including representatives from Portugal, Japan, Angola, Canada, Mauritius and Réunion Island.
Shihan António Pereira served as the Supreme Judge of the competition, overseeing the event and contributing his extensive international experience.
The participation of athletes and officials from several countries represented an important step in the continued development and international recognition of Kyokushin Karate in the region.
Technical Seminars Across Mauritius
Following the TOKIO CUP 2026, Shihan António Pereira travelled to Mauritius, where he led a series of technical seminars in different cities across the country.
The sessions focused on the fundamental elements of Kyokushin Karate, including kihon, kata and kumite. Participants had the opportunity to improve their technique, deepen their understanding of the discipline and benefit from Shihan Pereira’s extensive experience.
The programme concluded with a special training session on the iconic Flic en Flac Beach. The seaside session combined technical development with cultural exchange and provided a memorable conclusion to the visit.
Official Reception by the President of Mauritius
On Saturday, 18 July 2026, the executive members of KWF Mauritius, accompanied by Shihan António Pereira, were officially received at the State House by the President of the Republic of Mauritius, His Excellency Dharam Gokhool.
The meeting was also attended by athletes and members of the delegation who had participated in the TOKIO CUP 2026.
The reception provided an important opportunity to introduce KWF Mauritius, present its activities and discuss future projects aimed at strengthening and expanding Kyokushin Karate throughout the country.
The President expressed his willingness to examine the possibility of supporting a pilot project connected with the development of Kyokushin in Mauritius.
The visit marked an important milestone for KWF Mauritius and demonstrated the growing institutional recognition of Kyokushin Karate in the country.
Shihan António Pereira’s journey across Réunion Island and Mauritius successfully combined technical education, international competition, cultural exchange and institutional cooperation.
The series of events represented another important step in the development of KWF Kyokushin across the southern Indian Ocean and strengthened the relationships between practitioners, organisations and countries united by the Kyokushin spirit.
