MADISON, Tenn. — A man called 911 to admit to a shooting in Madison in self-defense.
Metro Nashville Police officers responded to an apartment at the Gibson Creek on East Webster Street at 7:12 a.m. Saturday. The victim, 22-year-old Alexia Stephens, died later in the afternoon at the hospital.
The preliminary investigation shows Stephens’ showed up at the apartment of her estranged wife, which she had moved out of a few days prior, and demanded to see the child they share together, said police. She reportedly threatened to shoot the door if not let in.
When the estranged wife unlocked the door, Shields reportedly entered and pointed a gun at a visiting guest, 21-year-old Jack Wade. He told police he shot Stephens with his pistol after she pointed her gun in his direction.
Police said the estranged wife and Wade have been cooperative.
No charges have been filed at this time. Police findings will be shared with the District Attorney’s Office.
