A new strategy adventure called Kingdoms of the Covenant is giving us a playable take on some of the Bible’s most recognisable stories, with an iPhone beta currently in development. The game combines settlement building with strategy and exploration elements with direct 3D combat, starting with Joshua’s journey into the Promised Land.
The developers have now shared an early gameplay look, showing how the different parts of the experience come together. While the game is still being developed, the footage gives us a good idea of what to expect.
The game combines strategic gameplay with hands-on combat and mini games
The game begins with Joshua entering the land, with characters including Caleb and Rahab also playing a role in the story. The developers say their long-term vision is much bigger, aiming to continue the journey through the biblical story from Joshua all the way to its end.
At the centre of Kingdoms of the Covenant is a living settlement that you’ll need to build and manage. The gameplay footage shows villagers moving between structures such as the well, kitchen, storehouse, and family tents, while resources and supplies are managed to keep the settlement running.
You can also interact with different parts of the camp, assign people to work, and gradually develop your home as the journey progresses. Beyond the settlement, the game opens into a larger world where you can explore the land, discover other settlements, and take on missions.
The gameplay preview also gives us a glimpse of the combat system. You can move your character around the battlefield, approach enemies, and attack them using on-screen controls. There are also mini-tasks, one of which I noticed is to raise the witness stone, where you’ll need to heave left or right.
For now, Kingdoms of the Covenant is being developed for iPhone, with the current playable beta available through testing. The developers have not announced other platforms, pricing, or a public release date yet, so an Android version is not confirmed at this point. You can join the waitlist to be notified when the makers share a playable build.
