Raoni Barcelos’ doctor has provided another positive update regarding the Brazilian UFC bantamweight fighter.
Barcelos locked horns with Raul Rosas Jr. this past weekend in the main event of UFC Vegas 121. The 39-year-old was fighting a perfect fight and perhaps just had to survive the final round to cruise to a unanimous decision victory.
However, in the final stanza, when Rosas Jr. took Barcelos down, the latter’s head briefly touched the fence, and he was unconscious right away. The ref immediately stopped the contest, and the 21-year-old won by TKO.

An unconscious Barcelos was carried out of the octagon and the arena on a stretcher. He was immediately taken to a Level 1 trauma center, where he underwent a CT scan. His coach and the UFC updated that, after the unfortunate and scary stoppage, Barcelos is ‘stable and has regained full consciousness.’

According to Dr. Gustavo Medeiros, Raoni Barcelos suffered a ‘sudden illness’ during the final round of the UFC Vegas 121 main event against Raul Rosas Jr. He is now ‘fully lucid and may soon be released’ from the hospital.
“Dr. Gustavo Medeiros (Raoni Barcelos’ doctor) says the fighter suffered a sudden illness (mal súbito) during the UFC Vegas 121 bout. He is fully lucid with all senses intact, stable, and only hospitalized for standard protocol/precaution. He may be released soon. Positive update.” [Translated]

The reason for Barcelos’ “sudden illness” has not been revealed. It is unclear whether it was related to the punishment he absorbed during the fight, the intense pace of the bout, or another medical condition.
Raoni Barcelos’ coach, Davi Ramos, has also assured fans that “everything is fine.” Ramos said:
“Raoni is fine, everything is alright. Everyone can stay calm. He just went to get the CT scan, but everything is fine. We’re here waiting for him.”
