Top regional promotion Fury Fighting Championship took its show outside its home state of Texas this past weekend, staging a special event at Minot Air Force Base in Minot, North Dakota.
In the Fury FC 125: Fight Force main event, former PFL tournament finalist and UFC hopeful Dilano Taylor starched Nick Meck with a vicious second-round left hook to capture the vacant Fury FC Welterweight championship.
The opening round was competitive early, but Taylor eventually secured a trip takedown and took control on the ground. “The Postman” threatened Meck with chokes while mixing in steady ground-and-pound for the remainder of the round.
Then, in the second round, the kill shot arrived.
Taylor remains one of the best unsigned Welterweights outside UFC, and his latest highlight-reel victory could finally earn him the call.
Fury FC Vice President and head matchmaker Rich Burmaster believes it should.
“We packed this card full of guys ready to get the call up to the UFC,” Burmaster told MMAmania.com. “Each of the title fights featured a fighter knocking on the door. Meck and Taylor were two of the top unsigned Welterweights outside the UFC, and I believe Taylor gets the call.”
Taylor (15-5) is riding a five-fight winning streak with four finishes, three of which came in the first round.
The 34-year-old also owns a first-round knockout victory over former UFC title challenger and Bellator champion Rory MacDonald, a result that sent the Canadian legend into retirement (watch highlights).
Taylor wasn’t the only UFC hopeful who made a statement at Fury FC 125.
Former Contender Series competitor and LFA Lightweight champion Jacobe Jones captured Fury FC’s interim Lightweight title by knocking out Yehia Riles in less than three minutes.
Check out Jones’ finish below:
Fury FC built Fight Force around prospects who are ready for the next level.
Taylor and Jones certainly looked the part.
