Former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor is plotting a quick turnaround, win or lose, after his UFC 329 comeback fight.
Conor McGregor will make his first walk to the UFC Octagon in five years when he clashes with former BMF titleholder Max Holloway at UFC 329. After a failed comeback attempt due to injury ahead of UFC 303, McGregor appears rejuvenated and motivated to make a statement after a long absence from fighting.
During McGregor’s rise to stardom, he was one of the most active fighters on the UFC roster, agreeing to challenge for the UFC lightweight title just weeks after defeating Jose Aldo at UFC 194. But in recent years, McGregor’s activity level has been one of the lowest on the current UFC roster, due to incidents outside of the Octagon and health-related issues.
Some speculate that McGregor will retire from fighting, regardless of the result, at UFC 329 this summer. Despite skepticism about McGregor’s fighting future, his longtime manager shared some good news on the UFC superstar’s long-term plans.
Conor McGregor ‘looking to stay active’ after UFC 329, says longtime manager
In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, McGregor’s longtime manager Audie Attar was asked about the former two-division champion’s plans after UFC 329.
“I could tell you he’s looking to stay active,” Attar said of McGregor’s plans. “I could tell you that we had planned for a season during the COVID period, and that never got going, unfortunately. But this is the new season, and he’s definitely looking to stay active. We’re definitely looking forward to not only this fight, Max Holloway, July 11, and then that next fight – and we’re not going to wait a year, that’s for sure.
“And then we’ll see. We’ll see kind of what happens from there. I don’t think we’re looking too far ahead of things. We’re just taking it one step at a time as we should because Max Holloway is a formidable opponent, and we’ve got to go and handle business come July 11.”
One potential fit for a future fight for McGregor is a trilogy with Nate Diaz. Before Diaz agreed to fight Mike Perry at the recent Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano event, the UFC was in talks with Diaz and McGregor to solidify their rivalry.
