The Street Fighter movie is set to hit theaters on October 16, 2026. Of course, Street Fighter has a history of producing poorly received movies from audiences.
To help remedy this, Street Fighter 6 Director Takayuki Nakayama has been involved with the the direction of the movie’s story. Here’s hoping that this can make a big difference in the quality of the film.
As we all know, Callina Liang is the actress that’s portraying Chun-Li in the upcoming movie. In an interview with Empire Magazine (via IGN), Liang revealed just how far she has pushed herself in order to do the “First Lady of Fighting Games” actual justice on the big screen.
“Chun-Li is all kicks. So we did a bunch of Taekwondo training, Muay Thai, and Wushu (Kung Fu). I did two hours of that a day and strengthened my legs a lot and changed my diet drastically,” said Liang.
One of the main goals of this intense workout regiment was to grow the size of Liang’s thighs. As pointed out by Liang, Chun-Li tends to be known more for her kicks rather than her punches in Street Fighter, so Capcom often places special emphasis on Chun-Li’s thighs.
Of course, it wasn’t just the training that proved to be a grueling experience for Liang. She also had to change her diet to incorporate a lot of protein. As a result, she ate a lot of eggs and almost got sick from eating so many of them.
“When I was bulking, I ate 12 eggs a day. Every two hours I had to have a meal, and I was on the verge of throwing up,” continued Liang.
Fortunately, Liang’s efforts ended up paying off. Through all of this, she was apparently able to grow her thighs by about six-and-a-half centimeters.
“But it worked. By the end of the shoot, my thighs had grown six-and-a-half centimeters each,” noted Liang.
Finally, Liang went the extra mile in order to better understand how Chun-Li fights by taking a closer look at the source material in which Chun-Li has been involved in over the years.
“I downloaded every single version of Street Fighter onto a PS5 and I recorded all of Chun-Li’s moves during fights on my phone in slow-mo, so I could play them back and study them,” said Liang.
