STOCKHOLM, Sweden. Saab identified CAE, IMP Aerospace & Defence, and Magellan Aerospace as principal Canadian industry partners for a potential Gripen E program if the Government of Canada decides to acquire the fighter aircraft, the company announced in a statement.
Under the proposed arrangement, Saab and its Canadian partners would establish domestic capabilities covering production, final assembly, training, mission-systems engineering, in-service support, and long-term sustainment. Saab signed a teaming agreement with IMP covering a potential Canadian Gripen final-assembly line, electrical assembly production, and in-service support.
A separate memorandum of understanding with Magellan Aerospace covers potential Canadian production of aerostructures, composite structures, and structural assemblies, while an earlier agreement with CAE covers fighter-pilot and technician training, mission-systems engineering, and support and sustainment. The partnerships remain contingent on Canada selecting Gripen E.
