- Brawl Stars devs admit the current rarity system needs work, but a rework is not a major priority yet.
- Trophy Road will get more rewards, while Brawler releases will continue at least once a month.
- Sirius is not finished, while lessons from Nano Noodles will influence future storytelling and events.
After a long delay, Brawl Stars is back with its beloved “Time to Explain” podcast, where the community can ask questions about the game and hear directly from the devs. The team has now released a new episode following the January 2026 edition, covering everything from future development plans and the rarity system to Trophy Road rewards, bug fixes, the challenges of managing lore, and more.
Brawl Stars devs admit the rarity system is not in a great place
One of the biggest questions from the community was about Brawler rarities. With Mythic becoming increasingly common and Rare and Super Rare Brawlers no longer being added, many feel the system doesn’t carry the same meaning it once did, and the devs largely agreed with that criticism.
They explained that they’ve intentionally avoided adding more Rare or Super Rare Brawlers because keeping the game accessible for new players is the priority. At the same time, the devs admitted they’re not particularly happy with continuing to introduce Mythic Brawlers either.
A potential new rarity has been discussed, but changing the system would also affect the game’s economy, progression, and how rarities are positioned across gameplay and marketing. For now, there is no concrete rework to announce, with the team treating it as something they can revisit later.
Trophy Road will continue to expand for long-term players
Trophy Road was another clear area where the devs acknowledged that the most dedicated players are eventually going to run out of things to earn. The team confirmed that more rewards will be added to Trophy Road, along with work across other progression systems that currently have an end point.

At the same time, they pointed out that the average fan is much further away from the end of Trophy Road than many highly active members of the community.
Brawl Stars says bug problems are getting better behind the scenes
The conversation around bugs was particularly interesting because the devs acknowledged just how difficult it is to test a game as complicated as Brawl Stars. With over 100 Brawlers, numerous game modes, abilities, Star Powers, and more, some issues simply don’t appear until millions of players get their hands on an update.
The team also explained that not every bug can become a priority. Issues that crash games or affect a large part of the player base are handled first, while smaller problems are grouped together for a later maintenance period. Meanwhile, a dedicated technology team has been working behind the scenes to make the game’s infrastructure easier to maintain, and the devs believe this should gradually reduce some of these problems over time.
Monthly Brawler releases are not slowing down anytime soon

Despite concerns about the roster being too large, the devs don’t have any plans to slow down Brawler releases right now. The team said there is currently impact from the release cadence, although they acknowledged that diminishing returns could become a problem at some point. For now, they’ll continue launching at least one Brawler every month.
Sirius is not finished despite the long wait
The conversation around Sirius turned into one of the longer discussions. The devs said they’ve built up the character heavily before release but didn’t give the story the kind of payoff many players were expecting. According to the team, part of the problem was that Sirius’ backstory changed considerably less than two months before launch.

That left the devs with much less time to turn the revised idea into the larger story they originally wanted. Even so, they made it clear that they’re not done with Sirius and want to revisit the character in a way that better matches the anticipation surrounding him. They also highlighted how Brawl Stars is changing the way it handles character storytelling.
Brawlers are increasingly receiving origin stories, voice acting, events, and other pieces of lore instead of relying only on a short animation. The team wants future stories to feel more immersive and ideally give players ways to actually experience the story in-game rather than asking them to piece everything together from multiple videos.
Nano Noodles gave the team plenty to learn from
The devs also reflected on the two-month Nano Noodles and Rebellion chapter, which was one of their most ambitious attempts at long-form storytelling and seasonal content. Rather than calling the experiment a failure, the team described it as a major learning experience.

The community also responded well to parts of the event, including some of the skins and the new Topple the Tower format, but the overall story was considered too complicated, and some of the temporary gameplay systems didn’t land as expected.
The team also admitted that players had grown tired of power-ups. As a result, the devs said we probably will not see power-ups return for the remainder of 2026, at least not in the same format. They’re instead looking at other ways to introduce new gameplay experiences without simply repeating systems that have already been used.
Map Maker still has a long road ahead
The devs confirmed that there will be no major change to Map Maker this year, although they insisted the feature has not been forgotten. The team said it continues to see potential in Map Maker, but other priorities have repeatedly pushed an update further down the roadmap. So, we’ll have to wait a little longer.
Overall, the latest Time to Explain episode was less about revealing one huge upcoming feature and more about giving us a clearer picture of how the Brawl Stars team is thinking about the game’s future.
From progression and Brawler releases to bugs and storytelling, the devs repeatedly emphasized that they are still experimenting, learning from community feedback, and trying to find the right balance as Brawl Stars continues to grow.
