Rest days are one of the most misunderstood parts of training. Many people believe that more workouts automatically lead to more muscle, while rest is seen as time wasted. In reality, muscle growth does not happen during training itself. It happens during recovery, when the body repairs and adapts to the stress placed on it. Understanding how many rest days you need each week is critical for maximizing hypertrophy, reducing injury risk, and sustaining long-term progress. This article breaks down the physiology of muscle growth, the role of rest, what the research says about training frequency and recovery, and how…
The U.S. Air Force is once again conducting no-notice combat readiness inspections of units, and stresses to commanders that is one of their top priorities, a top service leader said Wednesday.Lt. By Helge Adrians Russia is working to integrate inland waterways more deeply into its deterrence and defense posture. In Western contexts, this area of maritime geography is usually termed the ‘brown water zone.’ A harbinger of that development was the October 2015 strike against positions of Islamist groups in Syria, carried out by small warships in the Caspian Sea using land-attack cruise missiles (LACMs). Russia not only demonstrated a new level of operational reach (of over1 1,500 kilometers), but also revealed a singular capability that remains unmatched to this day – executing deep precision strikes (DPS) from inland waters.2 Indications…

The winner will likely earn the next title shot against champion Alexander Volkanovski, who defeated Diego Lopes by unanimous decision at UFC 325 last weekend in Sydney. With a partial government shutdown underway, the Office of Personnel Management has updated its shutdown guidance to remove references to the guarantee of back pay for furloughed federal employees once a funding lapse ends. OPM’s previous shutdown guidance from September 2025 stated that furloughed employees will get paid once a lapse in appropriations ends, at the earliest date possible. The September guidance also referenced the 2019 Government Employee Fair Treatment Act (GEFTA), a law meant to ensure retroactive compensation for both excepted and furloughed federal employees during government shutdowns. After President Donald Trump signed GEFTA into law in 2019 during…

While ISR sensors collect vast streams of information across domains, data alone does not deliver advantage. What matters is how quickly that information can be processed, fused, and turned into actionable intelligence for commanders and operators. In this Breaking Defense video, we explore how artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled analytic tools combined with deep human expertise are helping transform ISR data into real-time decision advantage that can be applied to handheld devices, the tactical edge, to aircraft cockpits. This discussion with Peraton’s Rick Hoehne, senior director, strategic programs, and Richard Vasquez, ISR training and workforce integration, also examines how emerging large language…
