The U.S. Navy’s top uniformed officer wants to convince commanders to use smaller, newer assets for missions instead of consistently turning to huge aircraft carriers — as seen now in the American military buildups off Venezuela and Iran.Adm. Daryl Caudle’s vision — what he calls his “Fighting Instructions” — calls for the Navy to deploy more tailored groups of ships and equipment that would offer the sea service more flexibility to respond to crises as they develop. The new strategy comes as the Trump administration has moved aircraft carriers and other ships to regions around the world as concerns have cropped…

For defense organizations, enterprise IT modernization is inseparable from mission readiness. As organizations layer new capabilities onto already complex environments, the attack surface expands, cybersecurity teams face mounting strain, and mission outcomes can hinge on whether users can securely access what they need without friction. The modernization challenge spans everything from cybersecurity, to IT service management, application improvement, and, of course, the potential of artificial intelligence (AI). In this Breaking Defense Q&A with Tim Gilday, vice president, Enterprise Digital Experience, Digital Modernization, and Bethany Leickly King, chief experience officer, Defense Enterprise IT Modernization, with Leidos, we connect modernization to mission…
Throughout the Middle East, governments and armed forces are improving their ability to counter the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) threat to military and civilian targets. Counter-UAV systems of various types are being procured from domestic and foreign sources. The threat posed by unmanned aerial vehicles throughout the Middle East is strong and still increasing. Operators range from terrorist and insurgent groups to nation states. Technologically they span the gamut from comparatively simple ‘garage-workshop’ systems to mass-produced long-range strike weapons such as Iran’s Shahed one-way attack (OWA) drone family. In addition to military and government targets, significant civilian infrastructure targets –…
It might not be long until the UFC matchmakers grant undefeated flyweight Muhammad Mokaev a second chance with the promotion. Muhammad Mokaev was on the cusp of a UFC flyweight title shot after 13 wins to begin his professional MMA career. But after a tense relationship with UFC CEO Dana White and the matchmakers throughout his promotional tenure, the UFC opted to part ways with the talented flyweight before making it to a title fight. Since his UFC departure, Mokaev has earned three dominant wins in MMA, including a vicious head-kick knockout of Gerard Burns at Brave CF 100 to…

The Air Force has previously signaled it plans to buy at least 185 F-47s from Boeing and at least 100…
One of Procurement Leaders’ community goals for 2026 is to better understand how human skills and capabilities must evolve as organisations continue to embrace and implement artificial intelligence. As a community, our ambition is to build blueprints for future talent, artefacts that will help CPOs to plan for where to invest their time, energy and budget when it comes to team development and recruitment. How? Through deep discussion, collaboration and debate. A recent virtual workshop helped members to think about what an action plan for new talent strategies might look like in this brave new world. And it was a…
