WASHINGTON, DC. The U.S. Army released new operational guidance titled How the Army Fights, establishing a framework for applying land power at the operational level and connecting tactical actions with broader Joint Force campaign objectives, the service announced.
The framework organizes Army operations around four interdependent elements: convergence, which synchronizes effects across domains; strike, which uses lethal and nonlethal fires at range; close battle, focused on defeating enemy forces and seizing terrain; and endurance, which sustains and projects combat power across time, distance, and contested environments.
The guidance also calls for integrating uncrewed systems, artificial intelligence-enabled tools, resilient networks, and precision fires while maintaining what the Army describes as the central role of soldier decision-making and leadership. It directs the service to prioritize readiness for the pacing threat while strengthening interoperability and resilience with allies and partners.
