OBERPFAFFENHOFEN, Germany. General Atomics AeroTec Systems and HENSOLDT will offer the ARGOS-15 electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) gimbal as a mission-system option for the Do228 NXT special-mission aircraft, the companies announced in a statement.
The ARGOS-15 is a single line-replaceable unit equipped with multispectral sensors and onboard artificial intelligence capabilities for object detection, classification, and tracking. Mounted ahead of the aircraft’s retractable main landing gear, the sensor is designed to provide an unobstructed 360-degree field of view. Available payload options include long-range multispectral cameras, a laser pointer, illuminator, range finder, and designator.
The companies say the integration is intended to expand the Do228 NXT’s intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities while reducing operator workload through onboard detection and tracking. The aircraft can remain on station for up to eight hours and operate from short grass or unpaved runways, according to the statement.
