Renato Moicano has three fights remaining on his UFC contract, after which the 37-year-old has no plans to continue his MMA career.
Moicano most recently lost to Tom Nolan at UFC Vegas 123. He was knocked out in the third round. However, the loss was not Moicano’s fault. He was doing a great job in the grappling department, winning the first round and on his way to also winning the second.
He had taken Nolan’s back in the second stanza and was working for a submission. However, referee Dan Miragliotta decided to stand both fighters up, and Moicano paid a hefty price for Miragliotta’s officiating mistake.
While fans and the MMA community have not forgiven Miragliotta, the former 155-pound title challenger has moved on from what happened at the Meta Apex on Halloween Night and is now focused on improving in his future fights.
Renato Moicano On What He Wants After His UFC Duties Are Over
Earlier today, on The Ariel Helwani Show, Renato Moicano confessed that once he fights out his UFC contract, he has no desire to compete in MMA. He said:
“To be completely honest with you, I want to finish my contract, and once I finish my contract, I don’t want to fight MMA anymore.”
Instead, the Brazilian would want to ‘beat up guys that don’t know how to fight.’
“I want to do boxing, like influencer boxing. I want to beat up people that don’t know how to fight.”
Moicano added that he knows how much he has left to give and has no intention of fighting beyond that point, as he does not want to leave the sport on a lengthy losing streak like Tony Ferguson.
“I don’t wanna be like Tony Ferguson. Eight fights, trying to be a champion, 40 years old, on a six-fight losing streak. I don’t want that. I’m happy. Sometimes you have to realize when you’re done. You have to realize how much gas you have left in the tank, how much love for the sport you have. For me, it’s these three more fights.”
Lastly, Moicano took a subtle dig at the UFC’s low fighter pay, adding:
“I think after these 3 I’m done because [the UFC] is not gonna pay me enough.”
