Evo has announced that it’s leaving Nice behind in 2027 and will be in Paris between October 22 and 24. The specific venue has not been revealed.
The FGC is not sure they are in favor of the move.
Despite this, Evo’s new parent company, RTS, is trying to accelerate the fighting game event’s growth. In 2027, Evo will be held in Las Vegas, Japan, Singapore, Morocco, Brazil and now Paris. Evo organizers are hoping the move to France’s capital will help the event grow in Europe.

Evo’s expansion has been met with a lot of backlash from the FGC. The prestige of the original Evo in Las Vegas feels a bit watered down when there are so many other Evo events throughout the year.
In response to the announcement, the FGC expressed frustration over Evo leaving Nice, which was a, well, nice location. Paris has a lot more of a negative reputation, as most larger cities do across the world.
Some also felt that eSports scenes have been entirely too focused on Paris, leaving the rest of the country without any tournaments. Paris will likely be more expensive to stay in as well.
They had such an amazing thing going in Nice.
I don’t understand the decision to move it to Paris, especially considering UFA, which is an absolutely amazing event/premiere. Is already held there.
This is such a strange move. Not a fan.— MOUZ | EndingWalker (@EndingWalker) October 12, 2026
However, Evo is probably eyeing Paris’ larger venues and better global connections. It’s a lot easier to get players from other countries to compete because traveling to Paris is easier than to smaller French cities.
There may also be underlying political reasons. Nice has a new far-right mayor, Éric Ciotti, who has been canceling many events in an attempt to reduce taxes. Even the Winter Olympics have caused friction in Nice, with Ciotti voicing objections to the 2030 Winter Olympics’ use of local venues for certain events.
This conflict could be one reason that Paris keeps getting all of the eSports events, including Evo.
