Flensburg, 21 September 2026 – The Norwegian Defence Material Agency (NDMA) has placed an order with FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH (FFG) for three further WiSENT 2 Armoured Recovery Vehicles (ARV). With this follow-up order, Norway is further expanding its existing fleet of these high-performance support vehicles. The contracts for the additional vehicles were signed on 18 September 2026.
The order is based on existing contracts which provide for corresponding follow-on procurement options. This brings the total number of WiSENT 2 Armoured Recovery Vehicles procured by Norway to 12, of which 8 have already been delivered to the Norwegian Armed Forces.
“This renewed order from Norway confirms our customers’ confidence in the performance and flexibility of the WiSENT 2. The continuation of our cooperation with the Norwegian Defence Material Agency is, for us, important evidence of the long-term quality and operational relevance of our system,” said Jörg Kamper, Managing Director of FFG, at the contract signing ceremony.
The WiSENT 2 ARV is based on the chassis of the Leopard 2 main battle tank and was developed to recover and support modern main battle tanks and other heavy combat vehicles, even under demanding operational conditions. Its key features include a high-performance recovery and towing system, a crane with a lifting capacity of up to 32 tonnes, and a powerful main winch. The integrated Combat Recovery System enables the crew to carry out recovery operations whilst under armoured protection.
The WiSENT 2 is designed as a modular vehicle platform and, in addition to its recovery function, can also be deployed as an engineer, mine-clearing or bridge-laying vehicle. Thanks to its modular design, the vehicle can be reconfigured between different set-ups within a short time.
With this follow-on order, Norway is building on the proven common basis of its armoured support vehicles whilst simultaneously strengthening its capabilities for the repair, recovery and support of modern combat vehicles.
