Hanwha Aerospace has announced plans to launch the ‘Chunmoo User Club’, a new international forum designed to connect countries operating the Chunmoo Multiple Launch Rocket System (MRLS) and strengthen long-term cooperation across its growing global user community.
The announcement came during the Chunmoo User Workshop held on the sidelines of the 5th K9 User Club in Tartu, Estonia. The conference brought together around 40 military and industry representatives from user nations including the Republic of Korea, Poland, Estonia and Norway, as well as representatives from other NATO countries, to discuss the framework and future direction of the new forum.
Under the plan, the first official Chunmoo User Club is planned to take place in the Republic of Korea in 2027, with subsequent meetings expected to rotate among participating user nations.
Building a Global User Community
The initiative comes as the international user community continues to expand, creating a growing need for operators to share practical experience, identify common requirements and cooperate across operations, training, maintenance, logistics, ammunition and future capability development.
The system is currently operated by the Republic of Korea and has rapidly expanded its international footprint in recent years, with Poland, Estonia and Norway joining the growing community of European users. As it is introduced across different armed forces, each country brings its own operational environment, force structure and mission requirements, creating valuable opportunities for operators to learn directly from one another.
The User Club is envisioned as a user-driven community where operators can exchange lessons learned and best practices, discuss common operational and sustainment requirements, and identify opportunities for greater cooperation among countries operating the same system.
Following the inaugural meeting in the Republic of Korea in 2027, future User Clubs are planned to be hosted by participating user nations, allowing operators to gain first-hand insights into how Chunmoo is employed, maintained and sustained in different operational environments.
The forum will also establish a closer feedback loop between Chunmoo operators and Hanwha Aerospace. Lessons learned through operations, exercises, training and maintenance can help inform future upgrades, sustainment solutions and capability development, ensuring that Chunmoo continues to evolve in line with real-world operational requirements.
From System Delivery to Long-Term Partnership
The planned Chunmoo User Club reflects Hanwha Aerospace’s approach to supporting operators beyond the delivery of the system itself.
As the global Chunmoo fleet grows, long-term operational readiness will increasingly depend on effective cooperation across training, maintenance, logistics, ammunition and lifecycle support. By connecting operators facing different operational challenges, the User Club can help identify shared requirements and practical opportunities for cooperation that improve readiness and availability across the wider user community.
The initiative draws on Hanwha Aerospace’s experience with the K9 User Club, which has demonstrated the value of bringing countries operating a common platform together to exchange operational knowledge, strengthen cooperation and contribute to the continued evolution of the system.
Building on that experience, Hanwha aims to move beyond the traditional supplier-customer relationship and build a long-term partnership in which Chunmoo users play an active role in shaping the system’s readiness, sustainment and future development.
The expanding Chunmoo community also creates opportunities for broader industrial cooperation among user nations. Chunmoo’s modular and adaptable architecture allows the system to integrate technologies and capabilities from local industry to meet country-specific operational requirements.
Building on these existing partnerships, the Chunmoo User Club could provide another avenue for user nations and their industries to identify areas of common interest, explore further technology integration and expand industrial cooperation across the wider Chunmoo community.
