The Norwegian firm Kongsberg announced on 20 August 2026 that it had received a contract from General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada (‘GDLS-Canada’) valued at NOK 1.1 billion for the Protector RS4 Remote Weapon System.
These weapon systems will be installed on the Canadian Army’s Armoured Combat Support Vehicle (ACSV), for which GDLS-Canada was awarded a contract in mid-July. This order will provide 190 ACSVs to the Army as well as an additional thirty-five to be delivered to Ukraine.
Kongsberg has previously provided Protector RWS to GDLS-Canada, which are in service with the Canadian forces and have proven in a wide range of environments, including combat operations.
The RS4 PROTECTOR RS4 is a roof-mounted remote weapon station that mounts a heavy machine gun or automatic grenade launcher. It can also add, in combination, a coaxial gun or a missile. The RS4 integrates an advanced sensor suite of high‑resolution day cameras, thermal imagers, and laser range finders. According to Kongsberg, “With a stabilised 4‑axis Detached Line of Sight (DLOS) architecture, the operator can maintain a steady view of the target independent of weapon movement, ensuring smooth tracking and accurate fire on the move.”
