Alberto Blas has spent much of his bare-knuckle career making short work of opponents, but the BKB super featherweight champion insists he is ready if Brandon Birr turns their rematch into a long night at BKB 58 on August 29. Blas will defend his title against former BKB featherweight champion Birr at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, where the bout is part of a championship card headlined by heavyweight king Gustavo Trujillo against Mark O’Neil.
Blas enters the fight with an 8-0 BKB record and eight stoppage victories. Seven of those finishes came in the opening round, creating a clear expectation that “The Cuban Flash” will look to end business early again. His last fight gave a different look at his game, however. Blas won the inaugural BKB super featherweight title when he stopped Harold McQueen in the third round at BKB 50 in January, after McQueen pushed the pace during the early stages.

That experience is central to Blas’ message before facing Birr. In an interview, the Cuban-born Miami fighter said his camp has been built for the full six-round distance rather than a quick finish.
“I’m prepared for six rounds. If you give me thirty seconds, a minute, I can destroy you in a minute. I’m prepared for six rounds. I train for six rounds, 18 minutes. My strength is that I study my opponent. Every second, every minute of the fight.”
Before the McQueen fight, his reputation was built on first-round damage. He had previously defended the BKFC bantamweight championship with a 56-second knockout of unbeaten Ryan Reber in September 2024, dropping Reber twice. That result extended his BKFC run to 6-0, with each win ending in the opening round.
McQueen forced Blas to reveal another side. The title fight reached the third round before Blas scored the TKO at the 2:20 mark, ending a bout in which he had to manage a former champion’s speed and aggression before finding his openings. BKB’s current record lists Blas at 8-0, while his profile describes him as undefeated in bare-knuckle competition.
Birr presents another experienced test. The Cleveland fighter is a former BKB featherweight champion and was identified by BKB as Blas’ most battle-tested opponent when the pair were originally set to meet for the inaugural super featherweight belt. Blas ultimately fought McQueen for the vacant title at BKB 50, leaving Birr as the challenger for the August defense. Birr has a recorded loss to Yampier Ramirez by second-round knockout, but he brings championship experience into a matchup where Blas has yet to hear the final bell in BKB.
The preparation has come with a personal cost. Blas said he has not seen his children for around two months while preparing for BKB 58. For a fighter whose fights have often ended before conditioning becomes the headline, the time away reflects how seriously he is approaching a six-round title contest. He is preparing for a short fight, but he is not banking on one.
BKB 58 is scheduled for Saturday, August 29, in Miami.
