Colby Covington was quick to target former teammate and current rival Dustin Poirier after the latter’s recent drunken arrest and a peer from American Top Team is none too pleased.
Video became widespread of ‘The Diamond’ being a bit unruly with airport employees before an on-scene offer was eventually able to hand cuff him. Never one to miss an opportunity to cut a promo about an enemy of his, ‘Chaos’ took to his social media to blast the former interim UFC lightweight champion’s issues with the law, as Covington stated,
“Nothing says role model and family man like being arrested for public intoxication at 37 years old at 6:38 pm… on Father’s Day. Hit me up when you get out the clink @dustinPoirier and I’ll send some RAB Zero to the father of the year.”
The ATT fighter in question who took issue with these comment sis Johnny Eblen who rematches Impa Kasanganay for interim middleweight gold at PFL Austin on July 18th. When asked if he found the comments tasteless whereby Colby Covington used Poirier’s alcohol situation to do a copy read for a beer that the former UFC interim welterweight champion was promoting, Eblen said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
Yeah, that’s totally in bad taste. You’re trying to generate; like [laughs] Colby trying to make himself relevant over a guy making a mistake, you know? It’s just so tasteless and just Colby’s not a great person. To me, I think he’s just a true piece of s**t. I don’t really like him. I could tell you a lot of the other people think the same and yeah, man, it’s just a real low blow. For you to parade on a guy that just made a mistake. It is what it is but it’ll fix itself over time.”
Colby Covington and an ex-UFC champ would be compelling RAF matchups that Johnny Eblen wants
Eblen has had some past discourse about RAF with several storyline attachment options. His training history with Sean Strickland could lead to a contest with RAF contracted Khamzat Chimaev considering the narrative their. Also, Covington is a big featured performer on Real American Freestyle and these aforementioned pieces with the Poirier barbs can generate another compelling storyline as it where.
When touching upon some of these moving parts with Chimaev and Covington, Eblen stated [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
I love those two matchups. I would totally wrestle both of those guys and yeah I think it makes sense. Me and Colby kind of have like; we both were at ATT and he’s not an ATT guy. He kind of talks s**t on a lot of people that I’m close with. So I would love to beat him up on the mat. Then me and Chimaev, I think that’d be a great great matchup. Yeah, I’d love to wrestle in RAF. Money just has to make sense and the opponent has to make sense.”
