- King’s Journey and XP are being removed completely in Clash Royale’s May 2026 update
- New Collection Levels make every card upgrade directly contribute toward your progression.
- Mastery tasks become easier, while rewards are also getting updated with a few extra resources.
Supercell has officially revealed the major progression overhaul coming in the Clash Royale update that is coming this May 26, 2026. The update introduces Collection Levels, removes King’s Journey entirely, and reworks Masteries to make progression feel smoother and more rewarding overall.
Alongside this, Supercell also confirmed that a new game mode, Evolution, Hero, and the return of C.H.A.O.S Mode are planned in the coming months. Let us see everything in detail about what is set to arrive.
Clash Royale May 2026 Update: All updates and changes explained
King’s Journey bids goodbye as Collection Levels arrive
The biggest change in this update is the removal of King’s Journey. Right now, progression depends heavily on XP, but the system has become confusing over time. You upgrade cards, gain XP differently depending on rarity, and sometimes open rewards that don’t even help the deck you actually use.
Supercell basically admitted that the system became difficult to track and didn’t feel satisfying anymore. Replacing it is the new Collection Level system. Instead of XP, your progression is now tied directly to your entire card collection. Here’s how your Collection Level is calculated:
| Action | Collection Level Gain |
|---|---|
| Unlocking a card | Based on rarity |
| Upgrading a card | +1 Level |
| Unlocking an Evolution | +5 Levels |
| Unlocking a Hero form | +5 Levels |
So basically, if you upgrade cards, your Collection Level goes up. While unlocking higher-rarity cards initially awards more Collection Levels, every upgrade always adds +1, no matter what the rarity you unlock.
Milestones and rewards become easier to follow
The update also changes how rewards are distributed. Instead of random-feeling XP progress, rewards now come from Collection Level milestones.
You unlock your first reward at Collection Level 20, then continue earning rewards every 10 levels. Once you cross Collection Level 1500, rewards become even more frequent and appear every 5 levels instead.
Supercell also confirmed that when the update launches, you’ll automatically receive a Collection Level based on your current account progress, along with celebration rewards depending on where you land.
King Tower upgrades now work differently
King Tower progression is changing, too. Instead of earning XP to increase your King Tower Level, it now depends on how many cards you’ve upgraded to certain levels. The important part is that your King Tower Level will never go down because of this transition. It either stays the same or increases automatically.
Features tied to progression are also getting unlocked earlier now. Things like Pass Royale and Clans will no longer depend on King Tower progression and instead unlock through Arenas. XP itself is also being removed completely.
Card upgrades, Masteries, and clan donations will no longer award XP after the update. For understanding this better, you can check the old and new King Tower requirements here.
| King Tower Level | King’s Journey (Old) | Total Upgrades (New) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Level 1 | – |
| 2 | Level 2 | 9 cards at Level 1+ |
| 3 | Level 3 | 9 cards at Level 2+ |
| 4 | Level 5 | 10 cards at Level 3+ |
| 5 | Level 7 | 10 cards at Level 4+ |
| 6 | Level 10 | 10 cards at Level 5+ |
| 7 | Level 14 | 10 cards at Level 6+ |
| 8 | Level 18 | 10 cards at Level 7+ |
| 9 | Level 22 | 10 cards at Level 8+ |
| 10 | Level 26 | 10 cards at Level 9+ |
| 11 | Level 30 | 10 cards at Level 10+ |
| 12 | Level 34 | 11 cards at Level 11+ |
| 13 | Level 38 | 11 cards at Level 12+ |
| 14 | Level 42 | 12 cards at Level 13+ |
| 15 | Level 54 | 13 cards at Level 14+ |
| 16 | Level 75 | 14 cards at Level 15+ |
Card Masteries are becoming easier
Card Masteries are also getting a full rebalance. Tasks across most cards are being reduced heavily, making them much easier to complete than before.
For example, if you’re already midway through a task and your current progress already meets the new requirement, the game will automatically mark it complete once the update arrives. Otherwise, your progress carries over, meaning you’ll still be closer to finishing than before.

The rewards are changing too. Gems and Wild Cards are being shifted away from Masteries and moved into Collection Level milestones instead. Masteries themselves will now focus more on Gold rewards to help fund upgrades.
Overall reward distribution gets a change
Reflecting all the changes that are happening, we have some changes to the rewards we are going to get.
| Resource | Old System | New System |
|---|---|---|
| Gold | 4,470,949 | 5,165,625 |
| Gems | 14,330 | 14,945 |
| Common Wild Cards | 6,431 | 37,169 |
| Rare Wild Cards | 3,073 | 9,275 |
| Epic Wild Cards | 667 | 1,473 |
| Legendary Wild Card | 3 | 71 |
| Champion Wild Cards | 3 | 26 |
| Random Common Cards | 17,783 | 44,641 |
| Random Rare Cards | 4,382 | 3,828 |
| Random Epic Cards | 1,182 | 416 |
| Random Legendary Cards | 42 | 23 |
| Random Champion Cards | 8 | 5 |
| Evolution Shards (from Evolution Boxes) | 11 | 16 |
While the new progression changes significantly increase rewards like Gold, Gems, Wild Cards, and Evolution Shards, some areas do take a noticeable hit. We will receive far more Common and Rare Wild Cards overall, alongside a major boost to Legendary and Champion Wild Cards.
However, the amount of Random Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Champion Cards has been reduced compared to the old system.
