Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is set to be released on August 6, 2026. It will feature a roster made up of 20 characters, which thus far consists of Captain America, Iron Man, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, Storm, Spider-Man, Dr. Doom, Ghost Rider, Wolverine, Magik, Danger, Peni Parker, Hulk and Shuri (Black Panther).
In an interview with 4gamer, Takeshi Yamanaka, producer for Marvel Tokon, revealed some interesting details regarding the single player content for the game. As it turns out, the developers are preparing a story mode that’s set to span for 10 hours.
It was previously reported by other outlets that this story would exclusively consist of cutscenes based on comic strips. In other words, there wouldn’t be any playable segments.
“It’s difficult to directly compare the volume of content to the story modes in other titles because the format is different, but in Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, you can enjoy a story using a motion comics style in a game mode called ‘Episode Mode.'” — Takeshi Yamanaka
Fortunately, it would seem that this was just a mistranslation as it has now been confirmed that the story mode will feature battles that require player participation.
“It’s difficult to directly compare the volume of content to the story modes in other titles because the format is different, but in Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, you can enjoy a story using a motion comics style in a game mode called ‘Episode Mode.’ We had a manga artist draw the base manga, and then we added movement to each panel to advance the story, which is a fairly time-consuming way to present it,” said Yamanaka on the matter.
Since this mode is referred to as “Episode Mode,” it’s implied that the story can be played from multiple perspectives. This would be similar to how Dragon Ball FighterZ’s story was structured.
There are five canonical teams within Marvel Tokon that are being led by Captain America (Fighting Avengers), Storm (Unbreakable X-Men), Spider-Man (Amazing Guardians), Ghost Rider and Dr. Doom.
“We have prepared five teams, and it has enough content to provide nearly 10 hours of gameplay in total. In episode mode, there are playable battles incorporated throughout.” — Takeshi Yamanaka
It’s important to highlight that Ghost Rider and Dr. Doom both have three unannounced members for their teams. These mysterious challengers will very likely be revealed prior to the game’s release.
“We have prepared five teams, and it has enough content to provide nearly 10 hours of gameplay in total,” continued Yamanaka.
“In episode mode, there are playable battles incorporated throughout. Battles that are connected to the story unfold, and it’s designed so that anyone can enjoy it casually, like reading a comic, allowing for a more interactive experience of the story.”
Evidently, Arc System Works is going all out with the story content as it’s been confirmed that the story mode will feature voice acting for 10 different languages.
“As an aside, recording the voices for episode mode was quite challenging. Up until now, Arc System Works titles have usually included around three languages, but this time we needed to include ten languages,” added Yamanaka.
